Name and Lineage

'Abd Allah b. Abi l-Husayn was a member of Bajila tribe. His name is stated as Abd Allah b. al-Husayn and 'Abd Allah b. al-Hisn al-Azdi in sources.

In the Battle of Karbala

'Abd Allah b. Abi l-Husayn was a soldier in the army of Umar b. Sa'd in a group led by Amr b. al-Hajjaj who blocked Imam's access to the water of the Euphrates. On Muharram 7th, Ubayd Allah b. Ziyad sent a letter to 'Umar b. Sa'd and told him to block access to water for Imam Husayn's (a) army. Then, when Umar b. Sa'd received the letter, he ordered Amr b. al-Hajjaj to lead five hundred cavalries and block access to water of Euphrates. According to sources, 'Abd Allah b. Abi l-Husayn al-Azdi al-Bajali told Imam al-Husayn (a):

"Don't you look at the water, which is like the heart of the sky! By God, you will not drink a bit of it so that you will die thirsty."

Imam al-Husayn (a) said to him: "God! Bring his death in thirst and never forgive him."

According to Humayd b. Muslim Al-Azdi, after the event of Karbala, Abd Allah b. Abi l-Husayn became ill and no matter how much water he drank, his thirst was not quenched. Finally, he died of thirst.
