Al-Shira' Verse

Al-Shiraʾ Verse (Arabic: آیة الشراء) or Al-Ishtiraʾ Verse (Arabic: آیة الإشتراء) refers to verse 207 of Qur'an 2 (Sura al-Baqara). In this verse, those who are ready to sacrifice their life in return for the contentment of God are praised. Shi'a and some Sunni scholars believe that this verse has been revealed about Imam Ali (a) in the event of Laylat al-Mabit.

Some Sunni scholars regarded the verse is revealed about people such as Abu Dhar, Suhayb b. Sinan,[1] 'Ammar Yasir and his parents, Khabbab b. Arat, al-Zubayr b. al-'Awwam, or Miqdad.[2]

All of Shi'a[3] and many other Sunni scholars[4] believe that this verse has been revealed about Imam Ali (a) in the event of Laylat al-Mabit.
