Al-Shaykh al-Tusi counted companions of Imam al-Baqir (a) and people who narrated from him as 462 men and two women. Some of them are as follow:

  1. Zurara b. A'yan; (b. c 70/690 - d. 150/767) was one of the greatest Shi'a faqihs and theologians, and among the close companions of Imam al-Baqir (a), Imam al-Sadiq (a), and Imam al-Kazim (a).
  2. Ma'ruf b. Kharrabudh
  3. Burayd b. Mu'awiya; one of the Shi'a faqihs of the first half of 2nd/8th century, and one of the companions of Imam al-Baqir (a) and Imam al-Sadiq (a).
  4. al-Fudayl b. Yasar
  5. Muhammad b. Muslim; (d. 150/767-768) was a prominent companion of Imam al-Baqir (a) and Imam al-Sadiq (a).

Other Narrators

  1. Abu l-Jarud; a companion of Imam al-Baqir (a) and Imam al-Sadiq (a). He was the founder of the first Zaydi sect, that is, Jarudiyya.
  2. Abu Khalid al-Kabuli; known as Kankar, was a companion and hadith transmitter (or rawi) of Imam al-Sajjad (a) and Imam al-Baqir (a).
  3. Bukayr b. A'yan; one of companions of Imam al-Baqir (a) and Imam al-Sadiq (a).
  4. Jabir b. Yazid al-Ju'fi; one of Tabi'un and an outstanding companion of Imam al-Baqir (a) and Imam al-Sadiq (a).
  5. Humran b. A'yan; one of the eminent companions of Imam al-Baqir (a) and Imam al-Sadiq (a). He was an expert in the science of al-qira'a, Arabic syntax and lexicology, fiqh and kalam.

  7. Khaythama b. 'Abd al-Rahman; a Shi'a hadith narrator of the 2nd/8th century and one of the companions of Imam al-Baqir (a) and Imam al-Sadiq (a).
  8. 'Abd al-Malik b. A'yan; known as Abu Durays (أبوضُرَیس) was one of the chiefs of Al A'yan and among the special and trustworthy companions of Imam al-Baqir (a) and Imam al-Sadiq (a).

  1. Abu Basir; (d. 150/ 767), was an Imamiyya figure in Kufa and a companion of Imam al-Baqir (a) and Imam al-Sadiq (a). He is also said to have been a companion of Imam Musa al-Kazim (a).

  1. Aban b. Abi 'Ayyash; a companion of Imam al-Sajjad (a), Imam al-Baqir (a) and Imam al-Sadiq (a). He was regarded as a true virtuous and religious man by everyone including Sunni Muslims.
