Ṣafīyya bt. ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAfīf al-Azdī (Arabic: صفیّة بنت عبدالله بن عفیف الأزدی) is the daughter of 'Abd Allah b. 'Afif al-Azdi. Her father was a Shiite and follower of Ahl al-Bayt (a) who lost his eyes in the Battle of Jamal and Battle of Siffin. After the Battle of 'Ashura' when there was a quarrel between 'Abd Allah b. 'Afif al-Azdi and 'Ubayd Allah b. Ziyad, Safiyya was imprisoned because of guiding her blind father in the battle against the soldiers of 'Ubayd Allah b. Ziyad. After her father's martyrdom, she was saved from prison by the help of Sulayman b. Surad al-Khuza'i and went to al-Qadisiyya. She then married Muhammad b. Sulayman b. Surad, and gave birth to 10 children.

As Her Father's Guide

'Abd Allah b. 'Afif al-Azdi, who was a Shiite, objected to 'Ubayd Allah b. Ziyad in a meeting of his. He had fought in the army of Imam Ali (a) in the Battles of Jamal and Siffin. He lost his left eye in the Battle of Jamal and his right eye in the Battle of Siffin.

After Imam al-Husayn (a)'s martyrdom, 'Ubayd Allah b. Ziyad gave a speech in Kufa and reproached Ahl al-Bayt (a). 'Abd Allah b. 'Afif objected to him. Ibn Ziyad ordered his soldiers to arrest him. However, his relatives took him out of the meeting to his house, but Ibn Ziyad's soldiers sieged the house. Since he was blind, his daughter helped him fight Ibn Ziyad's soldiers.

Prison and Marriage

After her father's martyrdom, Safiyya was imprisoned, until she was saved by a person on the order of Sulayman b. Surad al-Khuza'i. She went to al-Qadisiyya and joined the Khuza'a tribe.

After the Battle of 'Ayn al-Warda, Muhammad b. Sulayman b. Surad al-Khuza'i married her. They had 6 sons and 4 daughters.
