Ṭālib b. Abu Ṭālib (Arabic: طالب بن ابی طالب) was the eldest son of Abu Talib and Fatima bt. Asad, the brother of Imam Ali (a) and the cousin of the Prophet (s). According to sources, he was ten years older than Aqil b. Abi Talib and thirty years older than Imam Ali (a).[1]

There is not much information about the life of Talib. According to sources, he left Mecca upon the battle of Badr, out of force, together with the people from Quraysh; but, he returned to Mecca when one of the people of Quraysh said that the hearts of Banu Hashim were with Muhammad (s).[2] Some others said that he did not return to Mecca and went to Syria.[3]

According to a war cry Talib made in that battle, he prayed for the defeat of the army of Quraysh from Muslims.[4] He did not have a child.[5]

Based on a hadith from Imam al-Sadiq (a), he became Muslim.[6] Ja'far Murtada al-Amili considered this hadith al-mursala.[7]
