Malik b. Nusayr (Bashir) Baddi Kindi was in the army of ‘Umar b. Sa’d in the event of Karbala. On the day of ‘Ashura, he hit the head of Imam al-Husayn (a) with a sword and was cursed by Imam (a). After the event of Karbala, he was inflicted with poverty and insanity and was finally killed in the uprising of Mukhtar.
His Lineage
Malik b. Nusayr was from Bani Badda from Kinda tribe. In some sources, his name is mentioned as Malik b. Nusayr, Malik b. Nusayr Kindi, Malik b. Bushr, Malik b. Bashir, Malik b. Yusr, Malik b. Nusayr Baddi and Malik b. Haytham Badda’i.
In the Event of ‘Ashura
In the event of ‘Ashura, Malik b. Nusayr delivered Ibn Ziyad’s letter to Hurr b. Yazid Riyahi and Abu al-Sha’tha’ Kindi admonished him for that and they had an argument over it.
In the event of Karbala, he was in the army of ‘Umar b. Sa’d. On the day of ‘Ashura, he hit on the head of Imam al-Husayn (a) with sword. Even though Imam (a) was wearing a metal helmet, but the sword cut the helmet to the head of Imam (a) and the helmet filled with blood. Imam (a) removed the helmet and wore a hat. Imam (a) addressed him, “May you never eat bread or drink water with this hand, and God gathers you [on the Judgment Day] with oppressors.”
Ibn A’tham says that Malik stole the armor of Imam (a).
After ‘Ashura
He took the helmet of Imam (a) to his house. His wife, Umm ‘Abd Allah (daughter of Hurr and sisiter of Husayn b. hurr Baddi) told him, “Have you brought the helmet of son of the Prophet (s) to my house?! Take it away from me!”
After the event of Karbala, he became very poor and his hands were paralyzed, and according to Ibn A’tham Kufi, he was inflicted with insanity.
His Destiny
Mukhtar sent Malik b. ‘Amr Nahdi to capture him. Companions of Mukhtar captured him and ‘Ubayd Allah b. Asad Juhani in Qadisiyya in 66 AH. By the order of Mukhtar, they cut his hands and legs and then left him to die. In some sources, it is mentioned that Mukhtar killed him in the market.
