List of the Children of Imam al-Kazim (a)

According to al-Shaykh al-Mufid, in al-Irshad, Imam al-Kazim (a) had thirty seven children (eighteen sons and nineteen daughters).[1] Sibt b. al-Jawzi, a Sunni scholar, in Tadhkirat al-khawas mentioned forty children (twenty sons and twenty daughters) for him.[2]

Imam al-Rida (a), Ibrahim, Ahmad, Hamza, Ishaq are among his sons and Fatima and Hakima are among his daughters.

Sons

  1. Imam al-Rida (a)
  2. Fatima al-Kubra; mother of 'Ali and Fatima was a concubine named Najama,
  3. Ibrahim
  4. 'Abbas
  5. Qasim; whose mothers were concubines
  6. Isma'il
  7. Ja'far
  8. Harun
  9. Husayn; mother of him, Harun, Ja'far, and also Isma'il was a concubine;
  10. Ahmad
  11. Muhammad
  12. Hamza; the mother of his, Muhammad, and Hamza was a concubine
  13. 'Abd Allah
  14. Ishaq
  15. 'Ubayd Allah
  16. Zayd
  17. Al-Hasan
  18. Al-Fadl
  19. Sulayman[3]

Sibt b. al-Jawzi adds 'Aqil, 'Abd al-Rahman, 'Umar, and Yahya to the above list.[4]

Sibt b. al-Jawzi has also mentioned four daughters named Fatima, Umm Farwa, Asma', Asma' al-Sughra, and Mahmuda for Imam al-Kazim (a).[6]
