Yazid b. Thubayt al-'Abdi: Difference between revisions

He was a companion of [[Abu l-Aswad al-Du'ali]]. He lived in Basra and had ten sons. When [[Imam al-Husayn]]'s (a) letter of request for aids arrived in Basra, Yazid b. Thubayt announced, in a meeting in [[Mariya bt. Munqidh]]'s house where a number of Basra's Shi'as gathered, that he wanted to go to [[Mecca]] to help Imam al-Husayn (a). Two of his sons, 'Abd Allah and 'Ubayd Allah, as well as [['Amir b. Muslim al-'Abdi]] and his servant, Salim, [[Sayf b. Malik al-'Abdi]] and [[Adham b. Umayya al-'Abdi]] joined him. They met Imam al-Husayn's (a) caravan in [[Abtah]] near Mecca and set up their tent there. It is said that when Imam al-Husayn (a) heard about Yazid b. Thubayt's arrival, he went to Yazid's tent to meet him while Yazid had left his tent to meet the Imam (a). The Imam (a) stayed in Yazid's tent and waited for him to return. When Yazid arrived in the Imam's (a) tent, he was told that the Imam (a) had left to meet him. When he returned to his tent and saw the Imam (a), he recited the verse, "In the Bounty of Allah and His Mercy let them rejoice" (the [[Quran]], 10:58). He then greeted the Imam (a) and then told him about what had happened. Imam al-Husayn (a) prayed for him and then they joined the Imam's (a) caravan.
