Ḥamāsa-yi Imām Sajjād (a) (Persian: حماسه امام سجاد) (The Epic of Imam al-Sajjad) is a book containing lectures and views of Sayyid 'Ali Khamenei regarding the political, cultural and social Sira of Imam al-Sajjad (a).

Significance and Status

This book, in 282 pages, discusses the cultural and political Sira of Imam al-Sajjad (a) from the perspective of Sayyid 'Ali Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran. According to the Khorasan newspaper, the cohesion and overlapping of the content of this book allow the reader to complete their learning about the Sira of Imam al-Sajjad (a) chapter by chapter and resolve any ambiguities that may arise in parts of the book.[1] Based on the critique of this newspaper, the compilers of the book have organized the work in such a way that the study course related to the combative Sira of Imam al-Sajjad (a) takes on a special order alongside the review of his political and cultural Sira, preventing confusion for the audience.[2] The simplicity of expression and contemporary atmosphere of the analysis are among the praised features of this book.[3]

Content

The book consists of three parts:

  • Part One: Addresses the explanation of the Theory of a 250-Year-Old Person and discusses the speeches of Sayyid Ali Khamenei in 1986 at the Global Congress on Imam al-Rida (a).[4]
  • Part Two: Contains four lectures by the author at the Karamat Mosque in Mashhad in (Muharram 1394/February 1974). Issues such as the ideological situation of the people and Shi'as after the Event of Karbala, explaining the duties of Imam al-Sajjad (a) and his determination to perform these duties, the enmity and certain distortions made by the Banu Umayya, reference to the Imam's role of intellectual leadership, description and explanation of the Imam's relationship with specific Shi'as (khawass), organizing and training Shi'as and sending them to remote parts of the Islamic world, the Imam's severe confrontation with court scholars, and also the Imam's (a) use of the form of Dua to transmit pure Islamic teachings are among the topics addressed in this section of the book.[5]
  • Part Three: Includes a collection of the author's interviews with Pasdar-yi Islam magazine in (1402/1982), which comprises the author's views on the life of Imam al-Sajjad (a).[6]

Publication

The unveiling ceremony of the book Hamasa-yi Imam Sajjad (a) was held on (19 Rajab 1442/ 3 March 2021) at the Razavi University of Islamic Sciences in Mashhad.[7] This work has been published by Intisharat-yi Inqilab-yi Islami (Islamic Revolution Publications), affiliated with the Office for the Preservation and Publication of the Works of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei.[8] The book was published in (1441-43/2020-21), and by (Dhu l-Hijja-Safar 1442-43/August-September 2021), it reached its sixth printing, with over 10,000 copies printed.[9]
