Imam Al-Khoei Foundation in London

From wikishia

Imam Al-Khoei Benevolent Foundation in London was launched in 1992. Its building was formerly a church, which was converted into a center for religious activities by the Al-Khoei Foundation.[1] The statute of this institute was compiled in 1405-6/1985 upon the proposal of Sayyid Muhammad Taqi al-Khoei and with the approval of Sayyid Abu al-Qasim al-Khoei, a Marja'. It was established in 1409-10/1989 as a center for Shi'as in London.[2]

The Al-Khoei Foundation uses a global approach and has established extensive relations with Islamic and non-Islamic organizations and has placed dialogue between the world's major religions on its agenda.[3] This institute has cooperated with centers such as Al-Azhar University, ISESCO and the Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute regarded to Jordan. By holding conferences, publishing magazines and active involvement in the proximity of Islamic schools of thought (Taqrib), it has held meetings attended by Shi'a scholars and all seven Islamic schools of thought, as well as interfaith dialogue sessions with Christian and Jewish leaders.

Other activities of the Al-Khoei Foundation in the UK include the establishment of Imam al-Sadiq (a) and al-Zahra (a) schools in London, the establishment of a library with over ten thousand volumes, the registration of the institute as a non-governmental consultative organization of the United Nations in 1419-10/1998, and playing a vital role in stabilizing the position of Shi'as in relation to the British government.[4]

This foundation is also active in establishing Islamic seminaries in London,[5] facilitating religious ceremonies such as Friday Prayer, Supplication of Kumayl, commemorating religious celebratory and mourning ceremonies and training and dispatching religious missionaries.[6]
