Jami'at al-Islam Seminary (Kabul)

Jāmiʿat al-Islām Seminary (Persian: مدرسه علمیه جامعةالاسلام) is one of the seminaries and Shi'a religious educational centers in Afghanistan, established in 1973 in Kabul by Qurban Ali Muhaqqiq Kabuli, a Marja'. With a history of several decades in training students of Islamic sciences, this school has contributed to the scientific, cultural, and social advancement of the Afghan community. Managed by its founder, Jami'at al-Islam has provided services in religious, social, and cultural fields in addition to educational activities and has established its position among the seminaries of Afghanistan by persisting through difficult political conditions.

Jami'at al-Islam Seminary is one of the Shi'a educational centers in Afghanistan, founded in 1973 by Qurban Ali Muhaqqiq Kabuli (d. 2019), a Shi'a Marja' from Afghanistan. Since its establishment, this school has always been active and did not close even during strict regimes such as the Communist government and the Taliban.[1] The establishment of this school in Kabul provided the ground for the Islamic education of students of religious sciences,[2] and according to the founder of the school, it is considered a scientific institution among seminaries and religious schools throughout Afghanistan, both Shi'a and Sunni.[3]

In addition to educational activities, Jami'at al-Islam Seminary is recognized as a reference for the religious and social affairs of the people and accepts muballighs from Iran during special occasions. following the death of its founder, the management of this school continues under the supervision of Muhaqqiq Kabuli's office.[4] This center is active in legal, family, and property matters, as well as answering religious questions, in addition to scientific services; to the extent that even the Taliban refer some of their social matters to this school.[5]

Facilities

The building of Jami'at al-Islam is constructed in the Pul-i Sukhta area, located in west Kabul, with an area of 3,000 square meters. The school is built on two floors, and spaces such as special rooms for students, a Mosque, and a reception hall for guests have been included in its design.[6] Educational programs for students are provided at various levels, from preliminary to advanced. The school building also contains several classrooms and a large hall for religious ceremonies on two floors; the second floor is dedicated to women, and educational programs are held at different levels for students.[7]

Muhaqqiq Kabuli established a library on three floors, which was launched with the cooperation of the Islamic Republic of Iran and was welcomed by the youth and university students.[8]
