Taghrib News Agency (Persian: خبرگزاری تقریب) is a news agency affiliated with The World Forum for the Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought in Iran, founded in (1427/2006). After two years of experimental operation, this news agency was officially inaugurated in (1439/2008) by Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani during the 21st International Islamic Unity Conference[1].

General Introduction

Taghrib News Agency is a specialized, non-governmental news agency affiliated with The World Forum for the Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought[2] which operates in two fields: Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought and unity and preservation of the integrity of the Islamic Ummah. It presents its news in five languages: Persian, Arabic, English, French, and Urdu.[3]

The purpose of establishing this news agency is stated to be expanding the culture of unity and integrity of the Islamic world, strengthening the grounds for doctrinal solidarity among Muslims, confronting enemy conspiracies to sow discord among Muslims as well as the timeous and expansive dissemination of news from the Islamic world.[4]

This news agency considers its most important mission to be promoting and publishing the perspective of proximity and unity.[5] Morteza Bayat is the managing director of this news agency.[6]

Activities

When presenting its reports, Taghrib News Agency considers news, analytical, reporting, research dimensions, articles, interviews and bibliography among other factors. Publishing news of the World Forum for the Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, proximity and unity-building activities, introducing dignitary figures, news of Iran's Sunnis, and reprting news related to the services of the Islamic Republic of Iran system to Sunni-populated areas form the main axes of this agency's activities.[7]

Other axes of Taghrib News Agency's activities include:

  • Examining the challenges of the Islamic world and the Islamic Ummah in political, cultural, scientific, economic, religious, security and military fields and ways to confront them;
  • Covering news of resistance movements and anti-arrogance, anti-occupation and anti-Zionist movements;
  • Explaining the pivotal position of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the leadership of the Islamic Revolution of Iran in the Islamic world;
  • Enhancing the awareness of religious and scientific elites about divisive conspiracies;
  • Removing pessimism and doubts among followers of Islamic schools of thought;
  • Enhancing the level of awareness and understanding among followers of Islamic schools of thought based on the unity-oriented approach of the Imams of Islamic schools.[8]
