Draft:Khassa

From wikishia

Khassa is a term used to refer to the Shia in contrast to the term "'Amma" which refers to the Ahl al-Sunna.[1] According to Sayyid Muhsin al-Amin, the reason for naming the "Shia" as "Khassa" is that, firstly: the Shias consider themselves more worthy than others to be called by the name of Ahl al-Sunna, and secondly: the Shias are a special group among the general Muslim groups.[2]

In discussions related to the chain of transmitters of hadiths,[3] if the narrators of the hadith are Shia, the expression "Turuq Khassa" (Khassa paths) is used, and if the narrators of the hadith are from the Ahl al-Sunna, the phrase "Tariq 'Amma" ('Amma path) is used.[4]

The reason for naming the Ahl al-Sunna as 'Amma is also that during the lifetime of the Shi'a Imams (the first three lunar centuries) the Ahl al-Sunna were the rulers and all scientific, governmental, and judicial facilities were at their disposal.[5] The expression "'Amma" regarding the Ahl al-Sunna has also been used in the hadiths of the Shi'a Imams.[6] As an example, in the Maqbula of 'Umar b. Hanzala from Imam al-Sadiq (a), this expression has been used.[7]
