- Ja'far b. al-Imam Ali (a) (d. 61/680) was son of Imam Ali (a) and Umm al-Banin who attended the Battle of Karbala and together with his brothers martyred on the Day of Ashura.
- Ja'far b. al-Imam al-Hadi (a) (d. 271/884-5) known as Ja'far al-Kadhdhab, the son of Imam al-Hadi (a) and brother of Imam al-Hasan al-'Askari (a).
