Kulayn (Persian: کلين) is a village near Tehran.
Important scholars were born in this village including:
- Ya'qub b. Ishaq, the father of al-Shaykh al-Kulayni, who was living in the Minor Occultation period and was an scholar of his time. His shrine in Kulayn is a ziyarah site.[1]
- Muhammad b. Ya'qub al-Kulayni known as "al-Shaykh al-Kulayni" and "Thiqat al-Islam" and the author of al-Kafi who was born in Kulayn in around 255/868-9 and demised in 329/941.[2]
- Abu l-Hasan, 'Ali b. Muhammad known as "'Allan al-Razi" who was the uncle of al-Shaykh al-Kulayni and was a hadith narrator.[3]
- Ahmad b. Muhammad
- Muhammad b. Ahmad.
All are from "Kulayni family" and among prominent figures of Shia.[4]
