According to hadith sources, Jabir traveled to Sham in order to acquire a hadith on [[Qisas]] (retaliation) from [['Abdullah b. Unays]]; the exact time is unknown. He traveled to Sham in the time of Muawiya, but Muawiya ignored him. Jabir was upset, so he refused a 600 Dinar gift from Muawiya and returned to [[Medina]]. Considering the behavior of Muawiya toward Jabir, Umayyad caliphs constantly treated the people of Medina with contempt which was originated from the murder of the third Caliph, [['Uthman]].
