Sura al-Shams (Arabic: الشمس‎ , "The Sun") is one of Meccan suras of the holy book Qura’n. It is 91th sura, in writing order, and 26th sura, in revelation order. Since it is sward to al-Shams (sun) in the beginning of this sura, it is called al-Shams (sun). The main contents of this sura are relevant to some ethical topics as well as the story of the prophet Saleh and his camel and his people Thamud.

Reading of this sura is Mustahabb (recommended) in Eid al-Fitr peray.

This sura emphasizes on self-purifications and introduce the ethical purifications as the way of salvation. At the end of the sura, God has mentioned the story of Saleh and his camel which was killed by the people of Thamud. Then he stated the evil destiny of this people.
