Thursday
Thursday is the sixth day in the Hijri calendar. According to hadiths from the Prophet Muhammad (s) and the Infallible Imams (a), Thursdays are regarded as auspicious and important days. It is recommended to recite specific supplications, visit the shrine of Imam al-Hasan al-'Askari (a), and trim one's nails on this day. Additionally, Muslims often visit the graves of their departed loved ones on Thursdays.
Features of Thursday
According to hadiths from the Prophet (s) and Infallible Imams (a), Thursday is deemed an important day, having features including the following:
- A blessed day for Muslims[1]
- The day when Heaven was created[2]
- The day when the records of people’s deeds are presented[3]
According to some hadiths, the gates of Heaven are opened on Thursdays.[4]
Practices
Here are some of the recommended practices on Thursdays:
- Fasting on Thursdays in the first and last ten days of each month in the lunar Hijri calendar[5]
- Cupping therapy (hijama) on the last Thursday of each month in the lunar Hijri calendar[6]
- Trimming one’s nails[7]
- Ziyara of Imam al-Hasan al-'Askari (a)[8]
- Dedicated supplication of Thursdays[9]
- Imam al-Kazim's (a) supplication on Thursdays.[10]
