Jabala b. 'Ali was from the Banu Shayban tribe (a branch of Bakr b. Wa'il).[1] He was deemed as a brave man from Kufa.[2] According to some sources, he was in Imam 'Ali's (a) army in the Battle of Siffin.[3] He accompanied Muslim b. 'Aqil in his uprising in Kufa.[4]
In the Event of Karbala
Before Muslim b. 'Aqil's martyrdom, Jabala went to his own tribe and hid there. When Imam al-Husayn (a) went to Karbala, he joined the Imam (a).[5] He was martyred in the first attack on the Day of Ashura.[6]
He is mentioned in the Ziyarat al-Shuhada: "peace be upon Jabala b. 'Ali al-Shaybani" (السَّلَامُ عَلَی جَبَلَةَ بْنِ عَلِی الشَّیبَانِی).
