Imam Khomeini Husayniyya is a building in Tehran where most of Ayatollah Khamenei's official ceremonies, including public meetings,[2] religious ceremonies,[3] and his dars-i khārij classes are held.[4] The most famous ceremonies held in this husayniyya are the Muharram mourning from the seventh to the twelfth of Muharram and the mourning of the Fatimiyya days. From the beginning to the end of Ramadan, Zuhr prayer and Asr prayer are held daily as congregational prayer in this husayniyya. In 1989, after the election of Ayatollah Khamenei as the Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, at his suggestion, Muhsin Rafiqdust purchased a house that belonged to the Nizam Mafi family, and the foundation of the Imam Khomeini Husayniyya was laid there.[6]

The husayniyya building was designed on a property with an area of two thousand square meters. According to Muhsin Rafiqdust, all stages of the construction of the Imam Khomeini Husayniyya took 61 days, and the construction cost was provided by public donations. After the completion of the building, at the suggestion of Ayatollah Khamenei, the husayniyya was covered with zilous (woven floor mats).[7] The zilous of this husayniyya are hand-woven and were obtained from Yazd.[8] The building of the husayniyya is decorated with three-centimeter bricks, and in part of it, a balcony has been worked, and at the insistence of Ayatollah Khamenei, tilework was not used in its decoration.[9]
