The Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust (IKMT) is a religious and charitable foundation based in Kargil, India. The organization is dedicated to the expansion of religious culture, poverty alleviation, educational development, the revival of religious thought, and the promotion of the ideals of Imam Khomeini. The foundation was established in 1989 by Muhammad Husayn Zakiri.
To date, the institution has founded numerous seminaries and academic schools. Its broader scope of activities includes the management of charitable works, the organization of Friday Prayer, the renovation of the Imam Musalla Hall, the formation of agricultural mobilization units (Agriculture and Horticulture Basij), and the launch of the "Voice of Ladakh" news channel. The organization is currently led by Muhammad Husayn Zakiri.
Establishment
The Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust was founded in 1989 in Kargil, India, by Muhammad Husayn Zakiri, who also serves as the head of the institution.[1]
Goals
- Promoting religious education and culture;
- Fostering unity among Muslims;
- Alleviating poverty and unemployment while providing aid to the indigent;
- Establishing religious seminaries (Hawza) and modern academic schools for Shi'as;[2]
- Reviving the authentic principles of Pure Muhammadan Islam and ensuring adherence to the system of Wilayat al-Faqih;
- Promoting the ideals of the Imam and the Islamic Revolution of Iran;[3]
- Organizing seminars, conferences, and religious ceremonies, including those dedicated to the Islamic Awakening and the message of 'Ashura.[4]
Activities
- Founding the Martyr Morteza Motahhari Scientific Association and Modern School (commemorating the scholar d. 1979);
- Forming the Imam Basij, Zaynabiyya Basij, and Clergy Basij units;
- Establishing the Baqiriyya Health and Medical Center;
- Founding a seminary titled "Jami'a Imam Khomeini";
- Establishing Jami'at al-Zahra (a) for women;
- Launching the news channel "Voice of Ladakh" (Wa's-i Ladakh);
- Conducting Friday Prayer services and renovating the Imam Musalla Hall;
- Creating the Agriculture and Horticulture Basij and the Agricultural Institution;
- Managing a dedicated charity affairs institution.[5]
