Fotros Media Study Center (Persian: مرکز مطالعات رسانه‌ای فُطرُس), also known as Fotros Media, is an institution established in Iran in 2008 dedicated to the production of short and feature films concerning Islamic and Shia culture. The center's stated objectives include reaffirming the identity of the Shia community, combating religious extremism, and fostering interfaith dialogue.

In addition to producing short films highlighting prominent figures of Islam and Shi'ism—such as Lady Fatima al-Zahra (a), Lady Khadija (a), Wahid Bihbahani, and Hasan Shahata—Fotros Media has produced works examining ISIS, the Yamani movement, and the attack on Karbala in 1216/1802. Furthermore, the center has organized two photography exhibitions in Iran documenting the Arba'in Walk.

Activities and Works

With the aim of introducing Islamic and Shia culture to a global audience, Fotros Media has produced a variety of works, including documentaries and feature films, and has curated photography exhibitions centered on the Arba'in Walk in Iran.

Film and Documentary Production

The Fotros Media Study Center has produced over thirty short and feature-length documentaries;[1] notable examples include:

  • The documentary "Fatimiyya in the Church" (Persian: فاطمیه در کلیسا), which explores a historical document regarding the martyrdom of Lady Fatima (a) found in Christian sources.[2]
  • The documentary "Here Time Has Stopped" (Persian: اینجا زمان ایستاده), which addresses ISIS extremism and the rise of Islamophobia in Europe.[3]
  • The documentary "The Attack on Karbala" (Arabic: الهجوم على كربلاء), an Arabic-language film depicting the Wahhabi attack on Karbala in 1216/1802.[4]
  • The 10-part documentary series "The Claimant" (Arabic: المدعي), in Arabic, which investigates claimants of advent, with a specific focus on the Yamani current.[5]
  • The documentary "Al-Wahid al-Bihbahani" (Arabic: الوحيد البهبهاني), in Arabic, detailing the efforts of Wahid Bihbahani to revive Usul al-Fiqh and marginalize Akhbarism.[6]
  • A short documentary concerning the station of al-Abbas (a) in Albania.[7]
  • The documentary "Queen of Islam" (Persian: ملکه اسلام), in Persian, chronicling the life of Lady Khadija (a) and her support for the Prophet (s).[8]
  • The documentary "Hasan Shahata", in Persian, examining the life and martyrdom of the Egyptian Shia scholar Hasan Shahata.[9]
  • The documentary "Blood, Tears, Sky" (Persian: خون، اشک، آسمان), in Persian, investigating the veracity of the historical accounts regarding the rain of blood on the Day of Ashura.[10]
  • Documentaries titled "Earthen Agate" (Persian: عقیق خاکی), in Persian, exploring the lives of Shia scholars such as Sayyid Ahmad Faqih Imami.[11]

Arba'in Walk Photo Exhibition

In 2018, the Fotros Media Center invited two photographers from England and Italy to Iran to curate an exhibition of their work, which captured their experiences during the Arba'in Walk.[12] Subsequently, in 2019, an exhibition featuring the work of two Christian photographers from Spain was held in Tehran, showcasing their images of the Arba'in pilgrimage.[13]
