Quran 2:250 expresses the supplication of Talut and his army when facing Jalut and his army.[1] According to the verse, Talut and a group of believers from the Bani Isra'il, upon entering the battlefield, lined up and made three supplications: 1. A request for patience and endurance; 2. A plea for steadfastness and not fleeing from battle; 3. A request for victory over the disbelievers who were their opponents.[2] According to Fakhr al-Razi, in light of Qur'an 3:146 and Qur'an 3:147, this supplication was recited whenever the armies of prophets, especially Prophet Muhammad (s), stood against disbelief.[3]

According to commentators, the supplication of Talut's companions was sincere and from the depth of their hearts.[4] The meaning of the phrase "afrigh ʿalayna sabran" (pour patience upon us) is an exaggeration in seeking patience. It implies the emptying of patience upon them, just as a water vessel is emptied when its contents are poured out.[5]

From the perspective of al-Shaykh al-Tusi, "thabbit aqdamana" (make our feet firm) in the verse can be interpreted in two ways: 1. Strengthening the hearts of the believers of Bani Isra'il and 2. Casting terror and anxiety into the hearts of their enemies.[6] Al-Tabrisi, in Tafsir Jawami' al-Jam', considers the fulfillment of this supplication to be the killing of Jalut by Dawud (a), which strengthened the hearts of the believers and terrified the hearts of the disbelievers.[7] According to the al-Tibyan commentary, victory over the disbelievers is achieved through methods such as casting fear into the hearts of the disbelievers, the believers becoming aware of their enemies' weak points, the enemies seeing the number of believers as greater than they were, and creating discord among the enemy ranks.[8]
