Rawa'i' Nahj al-balagha has been published by various publishers in Lebanon and Iran.
Brief Introduction
Rawa'i' Nahj al-balagha is a book that examines the literary aspects and wise content of Nahj al-balagha.[1] This work consists of two parts: first, an introduction by the author about the literary and intellectual status of Imam Ali (a), and then a selection of sermons, letters, and sayings from Nahj al-balagha.[2] According to George Jordac, wisdom and eloquence are intertwined in Nahj al-balagha.[3]
Author
George Jordac (1926–2014) was a Lebanese Christian writer. His fame is attributed to writing works in praise of Imam Ali (a) and Nahj al-balagha.[4] In his youth, he had memorized parts of Nahj al-balagha.[5] He also wrote numerous works about Imam Ali (a), the most famous of which is The Voice of Human Justice (Al-Imam Ali sawt al-'adala al-insaniyya).[6]
Structure and Content
The book Rawa'i' Nahj al-balagha examines various dimensions of Imam Ali's (a) speech in an introduction and five chapters.
Literature of the Imam: Examining the eloquence and rhetoric of the Imam (a).[7]
Global Justice and Ali's (a) Role in It: examining the concepts of justice and wisdom in Nahj al-balagha.[8]
The Beginning of Ali's (a) Speech:a selection of sermons and advice.[9]
Letters and Wills: analyzing political, social, and ethical content.[10]
Sayings:a selection of wisdoms.[11]
George Jordac, at the beginning of his book under the title "Boundaries of Intellect and Insight" (Hudud al-'aql wa l-adab), believes that just as Imam Ali (a) was an Imam in the field of establishing rights, teachings, and leadership, he also adopted the title of Imam for himself in literature, and Nahj al-balagha is the sign of Ali's (a) literature. Because it is a book that in the principles of Arab rhetoric comes next to the Qur'an, and now that about thirteen centuries have passed since its life, it is still considered an original root in the Arab style, and interesting pieces are adapted from it, and its enchanting expression gives spirit to the style of oratory.[12]
The concluding part of the book is a sentence from Imam Ali (a) about the speed of the passing of life: "How fast are the hours in the day, and how fast are the days in the month..." (ما أسرع الساعات في اليوم و أسرع الأيام في الشهر...).[13]
