Commemorative stamp of the week of unity, 1987.

Islamic Unity Week (Arabic: أسبوع الوحدة الإسلامية) is a period of one week between Rabi' al-Awwal 12 (anniversary of the noble Prophet's (s) birthday according to Sunni hadiths) and Rabi' al-Awwal 17 (anniversary of the noble Prophet's (s) birthday according to Shi'a hadiths).

This period was named as "the Week of Unity between Shi'a and Sunnis" by Imam Khomeini following the suggestion of Ayatollah Montazeri on November 27, 1981. The idea of naming this period as above was given and celebrated for the first time by Ayatollah Khamenei in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, Iran in 1978.

In some Islamic countries, some programs are held in order to bring unity between the two schools and the annual International conference on Islamic unity in Tehran is one of such programs.
