Na'im Qassem (Arabic: نعيم قاسم), also known as Sheikh Naim Qassem (b. 1953), is the fourth secretary general of Hezbollah in Lebanon. He was the deputy secretary general during the tenures of Sayyid Abbas al-Musawi and Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah. After the martyrdom of Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, he was elected as the fourth secretary general of Hezbollah. Na'im Qassem was a member of the Amal movement and, alongside Imam Musa Sadr, played a role in forming the Movement of the Deprived people. He is also one of the founders of Hezbollah in Lebanon and has served as its vice president since 1991.

Na'im Qassem is the head of Hezbollah's parliamentary council and is responsible for coordinating ministers affiliated with Hezbollah in the Lebanese government. He believes in the theory of wilayat al-faqih, and two of his numerous works focus on Imam Khomeini and Sayyid Ali Khamenei, the leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Biography

Naim Qassem was born in 1953 in the village of Kafarfila in Nabatieh province, southern Lebanon. He received his bachelor's degree in chemistry from Lebanese University. From the beginning, he pursued his seminary education alongside his academic studies and was a student of Sayyid Muhammad Husayn Fadl Allah in religious sciences.

Secretary General of Hezbollah

On October 29, 2024, approximately a month after the martyrdom of Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah, the third secretary general of Hezbollah, Naim Qassem was announced as the new secretary general of Hezbollah. Prior to this, he served as the head of Hezbollah's parliamentary council and was responsible for coordinating ministers affiliated with Hezbollah in the Lebanese government.

In 1982, along with Sayyid Abbas al-Musawi, Subhi Tufayli, Muhammad Yazbek, Ibrahim Amin al-Sayyid, and Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah, he participated in the establishment of Hezbollah. Since 1991, he has served as the deputy head of Hezbollah in Lebanon.

His Role in the Establishment of the Movement of the Underprivileged

Naim Qassem began his political activities in the 1970s within the Amal movement, led by Sayyid Musa Sadr, and he played a role in establishing the Movement of the Underprivileged. He also served as the cultural deputy of the Amal movement. After the disappearance of Sayyid Musa Sadr, he separated from the Amal movement.

Belief in Wilayat al-faqih and Relationship with Iran

As mentioned on Naim Qasim's personal website, he believes in the theory of Wilayat Faqih and, as a result, supports the leadership of Sayyid Ali Khamenei following Imam Khomeini. He has written books about both leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

During Sayyid Ali Khamenei's hospitalization, the leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Sheikh Naim Qassem, who had traveled to Iran to participate in the "Islamic Scholars in Support of the Palestinian Resistance" conference, visited him along with a group of Muslim scholars.

In addition, Naim Qassem has participated in numerous conferences in Iran, including the Ahl al-Bayt (a) World Assembly, The World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, Islamic Unity Conferences, and World Quds Day Conferences.

Works

Sheikh Na'im Qassem is the author of works on civil rights, the status of women, the rights and responsibilities of teachers and students, and the duties of parents toward their children, among other topics. He has authored the book al-Imam al-Khomeini bayn al-Asala and Tajdid, which focuses on Imam Khomeini, as well as al-Walyy al-Mujaddid, which discusses Ayatollah Khamenei.

One of his works is a book titled Hezbollah of Lebanon: Its Policy, Past, and Future, written in 2002. It has been translated into Farsi, English, French, Turkish, Urdu, and Indonesian.
