The list of works on Lady Fatima (a) includes hadith collections, works on her virtues, and her biographies.

Collecting the hadiths narrated by Lady Fatima (a) began in the early Islamic history. Sunnis gathered her hadiths in a number of works belonging to the musnad genre (collections of hadiths narrated by an individual) and in their thematic (musannaf) hadith collections. Shiites have quoted the hadiths of Lady Fatima (a) mostly in their thematic hadith collections but recently in musnad collections as well. Works on the virtues or biography of Lady Fatima (a) are mostly compiled by Shiites.

Musnads and Other Hadith Collections

Since early Islamic history, traditionists have collected the hadiths narrated by Lady Fatima (a). Sunni traditionists tended to gather her hadiths in musnads, and Shiites quoted her hadiths in thematic collections of hadiths. In recent times, the musnad genre has become popular among the Shia as well.[1]

  • Musnad Fatima Zahra, written by al-Suyuti (d. 385/995-6), This work is one of the most comprehensive Sunni hadith works about Lady Fatima (a).

Apart from independent musnad collections of the hadiths narrated by Lady Fatima (a), her hadiths constitutes a chapter in musnad collections such as Musnad Ahmad b. Hanbal, Musnad Ishaq b. Rahawayh, Musnad Abu Ya'la Musili, and al-Mu'jam al-kabir by al-Tabarani.

Some of the hadiths narrated by Fatima (a) are included in Sunni hadith collections of other genres, such as al-Dhurriyya al-tahira al-nabawiyya.

Most of the hadiths of Lady Fatima (a) in Shiite sources are found in thematic collections (musannaf). For instance, volume forty three of Bihar al-anwar and volume 11 of Awalim al-ulum wa l-ma'arif by Bahrani Isfahani contain her hadiths.

Al-Khutba al-Fadakiyya

Among the sayings of Fatima (a), there is a well-known speech recorded in historical and hadith sources. This speech, called al-Khutba al-Fadakiyya (Speech on Fadak), was delivered by Fatima (a) in relation to the confiscation of Fadak and usurpation of the caliphate.

The speech is recorded in sources such as Balaghat al-nisa' by Ibn Tayfur, al-Shafi by al-Sharif al-Murtada, al-Ihtijaj by al-Tabrisi, al-Tara'if by Ibn Tawus, and Kashf al-ghumma by al-Irbili. There are several commentaries of this speech, including two recent commentary by Muhammad Taqi Mesbah Yazdi and Mujtaba Tehrani.[23]
