Hānī b. Thubayt (Shabīb) al-Ḥaḍramī (Arabic:هانی بن ثُبَیت (شَبیب) الحَضرَمی) (killed in 66/685-6) was among the soldiers of the army of 'Umar b. Sa'd on the Day of 'Ashura. He helped in martyring 'Abd Allah b. 'Umayr al-Kalbi and was the killer of 'Abd Allah and Ja'far, children of Imam Ali (a). Also, he was among those who looted the bow and clothes of Imam al-Husayn (a) and among those who trampled over the body of Imam (a) by order of 'Umar b. Sa'd.
He has reported some of the Events of Karbala. He was finally killed in the Uprising of Mukhtar.
On the Day of 'Ashura
On the day of 'Ashura, Hani b. Thubayt was in the army of 'Umar b. Sa'd.
Hani b. Thubayt with the help of Bukayr b. Hayy al-Tamimi martyred 'Abd Allah b. 'Umayr al-Kalbi.[1] He was the killer of 'Abd Allah and Ja'far, sons of Imam Ali (a),[2].[3] and has been cursed in the Ziyarah al-Shuhada'. However, in some sources, Ja'far b. Ali has been mentioned to have been killed by Khuli b. Yazid.[4]
Some sources have also mentioned him as the killer of 'Abd Allah b. Husayn and 'Abd Allah b. Hasan.
In the evening of 'Ashura, he was among the ten horsemen who trampled over the body of Imam al-Husayn (a) by order of Ibn Sa'd and crushed the bones of Imam's (a) chest and back.[5] He and Rahil b. Khuthayma al-Ju'fi and Jarir b. Mas'ud al-Hadrami also stole Imam's (a) bow and clothes.[6]
Reporting the Events of 'Ashura
Hani b. Thubayt has reported some of the events of Karbala.[7] Abu Mikhnaf reported the last conversation of Imam al-Husayn (a) with 'Umar b. Sa'd from Abu Jinab Kalbi who quoted from Hani, saying that Imam al-Husayn (a) sent a message to 'Umar b. Sa'd by 'Amr b. Qaraza to meet at night. At night, Imam (a) and Ibn Sa'd, each accompanied by twenty horsemen, met. They both asked their companions to stand away. Their meeting lasted well into the night.[8]
Death
Hani b. Thubayt was killed in 66/685-6 in the Uprising of Mukhtar and by his order.[9]
