Lineage

'Uthman b. Khalid was from Bani Juhayna[1] and, in historical sources and other sources, is referred to as 'Uthman b. Khalid b. Asid al-Juhani,[2] 'Uthman b. Khalid b. Ashim al-Juhani,[3] 'Umar b. Khalid b. Asad al-Juhani,[4] 'Uthman b. Khalid b. Asir al-Juhani[5] and 'Uthman b. Khalid al-Hamdani.[6]

In the Event of 'Ashura

In the Event of Karbala, 'Uthman b. Khalid was in the army of 'Umar b. Sa'd. Different sources have mentioned him as the murderer of 'Abd al-Rahman b. 'Aqil[7] or among his murderers who helped Bushr b. Sut al-Qabidi murder 'Abd al-Rahman[8] and stole his clothes.[9] Some sources have mentioned his role in the martyrdom of 'Abd Allah Akbar b. 'Aqil as well.[10] However, in Akhbar al-Tiwal, 'Abd Allah b. 'Urwa al-Khath'ami is introduced as the murderer of 'Abd al-Rahman b. 'Aqil.[11]

In the Ziyarah al-Shuhada', 'Umar b. Khalid b. Asad al-Juhani is cursed as the murderer of 'Abd al-Rahman b. 'Aqil.[12]

Destiny

Muhammad b. Jarir al-Tabari has quoted from Musa b. 'Amir al-'Aduwi from Bani Juhayna,

"In 66/685-6, Mukhtar sent 'Abd Allah b. Kamil to kill 'Uthman b. Khalid and Bushr b. Sut. Ibn Kamil besieged Bani Duhman mosque and threatened that if they do not submit the two to him, he will kill them all. Following his threat, an army went after Khalid and Bishr and found them in Jubana where they wanted to escape toward the island and brought them to Ibn Kamil. 'Abd Allah beheaded them in a place called, the well of Ja'd and then by order of Mukhtar, burned their bodies."[13]
