List of Shia Hadith-based Quranic exegeses (also known as narrative tafsirs) refers to a genre of Quranic interpretation within the Imami (Twelver Shia) tradition. These works are based on exegetical narrations from the Prophet Muhammad (s) and the Ahl al-Bayt (a). The list is organized chronologically by date of composition and includes the following works:

3. Tafsir al-Qummi Ali b. Ibrahim al-Qummi 3rd Arabic Scholars doubt the attribution of this tafsir to Ali b. Ibrahim. It is considered an esoteric tafsir with many far-fetched interpretations.
4. Tafsir al-Hibari Husayn b. al-Hakam al-Hibari 3rd Arabic Al-Hibri discusses verses revealed regarding Imam Ali (a).
5. Tafsir Furat al-Kufi Furat b. Ibrahim b. Furat al-Kufi 4th Arabic Contains narrations interpreting verses as describing Amir al-Mu'minin (a).
6. Tafsir al-Ayyashi Muhammad b. Mas'ud al-'Ayyashi 4th Arabic Available from Sura al-Fatiha to the end of Sura al-Kahf; the rest is lost.
7. 'Ayn al-'Ibra fi Ghabn al-'Itrah Al-Sayyid Ahmad b. Tawus al-Hilli 7th Arabic Includes verses on the virtues of the Ahl al-Bayt (a) and refutations of their opponents.

Verse order is not maintained.

8. Nahj al-bayan 'an kashf ma'ani l-Qur'an Muhammad b. Hasan al-Shaybani 7th Arabic A major source for Al-Burhan fi tafsir al-Qur'an by Sayyid Hashim al-Bahrani and Tafsir al-Mizan in narration transmission.

The exegete considers occasions of revelation as clarifying verses and completes his discussion by citing them.

9. Ta'wil al-Ayat al-Zahira Sayyid Sharaf al-Din Ali Husayni Istirabadi 10th Arabic Compiles narrations that interpret verses esoterically, praising the Ahl al-Bayt (a) or criticizing their enemies.
10. Manhaj al-sadiqin Mulla Fath Allah Kashani 10th Persian A comprehensive tafsir covering diverse topics.

He also authored Zubdat al-Tafasir and Khulasat al-Manhaj.

11. Zubdat al-tafasir Mulla Fathallah Kashani 10th Arabic A hadith-based tafsir where the exegete first cites Sunni reports, then narrations from the Ahl al-Bayt (a) sourced from primary references.
12. Al-Burhan fi Tafsir al-Qur'an Sayyid Hashim al-Bahrani 11th Arabic One of the most important and comprehensive Shia hadith-based tafsirs. It is ijtihad-based and reflects the exegete’s reasoning.

Despite scholarly effort, it includes weak narrations involving exaggeration and distortion.

13. Tafsir al-Safi Mulla Muhsin Fayd Kashani 11th Arabic Concise and comprehensive.

Considered an ijtihad-based tafsir.

Its introduction is among the best in outlining essential principles every exegete should know.

The author evaluates narrations used in interpretation.

Non-narrative content on occasions of revelation, grammar, and recitation is mostly taken from Tafsir al-Baydawi.

14. Al-Asfa fi tafsir al-Qur'an Mulla Muhsin Fayd Kashani 11th Arabic An abridged version of Tafsir al-Safi, covering all surahs.
15. Tafsir al-Mu'in Muhammad b. Murtada al-Kashani 11th Arabic Its interpretive method is blended and similar to Fayd Kashani’s al-Safi.

Uses symbols for brevity, explained in the introduction.

16. Tafsir-i Sharif-i Lahiji Muhammad b. Ali al-Sharif al-Lahiji 11th Persian Relies solely on Shia hadith collections.

Combines narrations and resolves contradictions; includes biographical evaluations.

17. Tafsir Nur al-Thaqalayn Abd Ali b. Jumu'a al-Huwayzi 11th Arabic The author attempts to cite every narration related to a verse, whether interpretive, supportive, or referential.

Does not assess chains of transmission; it includes many weak and disconnected narrations.

Narrations are fragmented; chains of transmission are omitted.

Includes material from Isra'iliyyat.

18. Tafsir Kanz al-Daqa'iq Mirza Muhammad al-Qummi al-Mashhadi 12th Arabic Considered a synthesis of major tafsirs from both Shia and Sunni traditions.

Also serves as a rhetorical and literary commentary and marginal notes on Tafsir al-Baydawi.

Heavily draws from Nur al-Thaqalayn.

Regarded as a hadith-based and ijtihad-based tafsir.

19. Al-Jawhar al-Thamin Al-Sayyid Abd Allah Shubbar 13th Arabic Considered a hadith-based and ijtihad-based tafsir.

Also known as Shubbar’s “Intermediate Tafsir.”

20. Tafsir-i Jami' Sayyid Ibrahim Burujirdi 15th Persian A compilation of narrations attributed to Imam Hasan al-Askari (a), Tafsir al-Ayyashi, and Tafsir attributed to Ali b. Ibrahim Qummi.

Extensively discusses the concept of wilayah of Amir al-Mu'minin.[1]
