Iran's missile attack on Israel, known as the Second True Promise Operation, refers to the IRGC Aerospace Force's strike on October 1, 2024, targeting military and security sites in the occupied territories. On October 1, 2024, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps fired 200 missiles from various cities in Iran at targets in the occupied territories.[1]

This operation was in retaliation for the assassination of Ismail Haniyya, the head of Hamas, along with Sayyid Hasan Nasrallah, the secretary general of Hezbollah and Iranian IRGC commander Sayyid Abbas Nilfroushan.[2]

On July 31, 2024, the Zionist regime assassinated Ismail Haniyya in Tehran during his visit for a presidential inauguration. In response, Iran vowed revenge, asserting it would retaliate against the Zionist regime.

IRGC's Statement after Attack

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) issued a statement shortly after the missile attack began. It said in response to the martyrdom of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyya, Hezbollah leader Sayyid Hasan Nasrallah, and IRGC commander Abbas Nilforoushan, the IRGC Aerospace Force launched dozens of ballistic missiles targeting key military and intelligence bases in the heart of the occupied territories.

The IRGC further said that the attack was in line with the country’s right to legitimate self-defense as per the United Nations Charter, and in response to the regime's escalating crimes—backed by the United States—against the people of Lebanon and Gaza.[3]

In its second statement following the missile attack on occupied Palestine, the IRGC stated that it targeted the Mossad headquarters, Nevatim Airbase, the primary storage facility for F-35 fighters, Hatzerim Airbase (the base associated with the assassination operation against Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah), as well as guidance radars, tank and personnel carrier gathering centers, and the Tel Nof base. The statement added that despite the area being protected by advanced and extensive defense systems, 90% of the missiles successfully hit their targets.[4]

Consequences

Israeli residents took shelter on the side of the street during Iran's missile attack on Israel.

The Israeli army instructed residents of the occupied territories to refrain from sharing videos and photos of rockets striking targets and the resulting damage. Nevertheless, images of several rockets hitting targets in Tel Aviv and other occupied areas were still published. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps says Israel will face “crushing” attacks if it responds.[5] Iraqi armed groups warned on Tuesday that U.S. bases in Iraq and the region would become targets if the United States responds to Iranian strikes on Zionist entity or if Israeli regime utilizes Iraqi airspace against Tehran.[6] Countries that support Israel, including the United States, France, Germany, Japan, and Canada, condemned Iran's attacks and expressed their support for Israel.[7]

Celebration in Gaza and Iran

Reports indicate that Iranian missiles struck their targets within 15 minutes. Media outlets also released images of several rockets hitting locations in Tel Aviv. Meanwhile, people in various cities across Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Gaza, and other Palestinian areas celebrated by shouting "Takbir." (Allah-u Akbar).[8] Resistance groups such as Yemen's Ansarullah movement, Lebanon's Hezbollah, Iraq's al-Hashd al-Sha'bi, Hamas, and Palestine Islamic Jihad Movement congratulated the Islamic Republic of Iran on its attack on the occupied territories.[9]

Abdullah Jawadi Amuli[10] and Hossein Noori Hamedani,[11] both Shi'a Marja' in Qom, appreciated this operation.
