| In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful. |
| After performing the night prayer, Ali (may God be pleased with him) addressed his companions and said: | خطبَ عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَصْحَابَهُ بَعْدَ أَنْ صَلَّى عِشَاءَ الآخِرَةِ فَقَالَ: |
| Praise be to God, who establishes what He decrees and determines. |
| Whatever He confirms, none can undo; and whatever He annuls, none can establish. |
| Indeed, had God, the Exalted, willed, not even two of His creatures would have differed; |
| nor would the community have disputed over any matter of His command; nor would the lesser have denied the right of the greater.
| And had God willed, they would not have fought one another. But God does whatever He wills. |
| These decrees have brought us and them to this place, and we are before God, the Exalted, in His sight and hearing.
| And had God willed, He would have taken vengeance, and with it would have come transformation. But He has made this world the abode of deeds, and the Hereafter the abode of permanence, | وَلَوْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَانْتَقَمَ وَكَانَ مَعَهُ التَّغْيِيرُ وَلَكِنَّهُ جَعَلَ الدُّنْيَا دَارَ الْأَعْمَالِ وَالْآخِرَةَ دَارَ الْقَرَارِ |
| so that He may recompense those who did evil with what they did, and reward those who did good with the best.
| Behold, tomorrow you will fight your enemy. So spend this night in prayer, increase your recitation of the Qur’an, | أَلَا وَإِنَّكُمْ تُقَاتِلُونَ عَدُوَّكُمْ غَدًا فَاطْلُبُوا اللَّيْلَةَ الْقِيَامَ وَأَكْثِرُوا فِيهَا مِنْ تِلَاوَةِ الْقُرْآنِ |
| remember God, and ask Him for victory. And upon you is vigilance, firmness, patience, and be truthful.
| Behold! Matters have reached you and your enemy to the point you have seen, and nothing remains of them except their final breath.
| For when matters advance, consider their end by their beginning. |
| And tomorrow I shall march against them and bring them before the judgment of the Lord of the worlds. |
| They have endured, but upon a path other than religion, until they have reached what they have reached among you.[1] | وَأَنَا غَادٍ عَلَيْهِمْ غَدًا وَمُحَاكِمُهُمْ إِلَى رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ |
