Draft:Marfūʿ Ḥadith

From wikishia

Marfū' Ḥadith (Arabic: حَدیث المَرفوع, lit. raised hadith) constitutes a specific category of Khabar al-Wahid and serves as a technical term within the discipline of Diraya.[1] Scholars have generally proffered two primary definitions for the Marfū' hadith:

  • It refers to a hadith in which the chain of transmission (isnad) culminates in an attribution to an Infallible, citing their speech, action, or Taqrir (tacit approval). This classification applies regardless of whether the chain is extant, and if so, whether it is continuous or broken;[2] an example would be a companion of the Imams (a) stating: "Imam al-Sadiq (a) said such and such" or "I saw him perform such and such."[3] In this context, the Marfū' hadith stands in contrast to the Mawquf Hadith,[4] which is a narration attributed to a non-infallible source.[5] Consequently, a Marfū' hadith defined in this manner may be categorized as Sahih, Muwaththaq, Hasan, or Da'if.[6] 'Abd Allah Mamaqani regarded this as the prevalent and standard usage of the term.[7]
  • It designates a hadith wherein the specific term "rafa'ahu" (he raised it) is explicitly employed to bridge a gap where one or more narrators have been omitted. For instance: "Al-Kulayni narrated from 'Ali b. Ibrahim, from his father, rafa'ahu (he raised it) to Abu 'Abd Allah (a)."[8] This specific form is considered a subset of the Mursal Hadith.[9]

Ayatollah Subhani deems this second definition to be uncommon.[10]
