Abdullah al-Duhduh (1966 – 2012 CE) was a Shi'a cleric and missionary in Belgium. After converting to Shi'a Islam, he went to Qom for his studies. Following his education at the Seminary of Qom and Al-Mustafa University, he returned to Belgium, where he established the Imam Reza (a) Islamic Centre and Mosque in Brussels and began his missionary activities. His efforts in Belgium included conducting religious and devotional ceremonies, authoring several books, and training over two hundred students. Abdullah Duhduh was martyred on March 12, 2012 CE at the hands of Takfiri terrorists.

Life

Abdullah Duhduh was born in 1966 CE in Morocco. Influenced by the teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt (a), he converted to Shi'a Islam. He entered the Seminary of Qom in 1980 CE to pursue religious studies.

Migration to Belgium

After completing an initial phase of his studies and acquiring the foundational principles of Islamic knowledge, Abdullah Duhduh went to Belgium to propagate Islamic teachings. Alongside his activities, he also obtained a Bachelor's degree in Natural Sciences from Belgian universities.

Further Studies in Qom

After several years, Duhduh returned to Iran and the city of Qom to continue his education. He was clothed with the garment of the clergy by Ayatullah Muhammad Taqi Bahjat, one of the Shi'a Maraji'. After completing his studies in Jurisprudence and Islamic sciences at Al-Mustafa University, he returned to Belgium and began his missionary activities by establishing the "Imam Reza (a) Islamic Centre and Mosque" in Brussels.

Missionary Activities

During his career, Abdullah Duhduh carried out effective activities in spreading the culture of the Ahl al-Bayt (a), including conducting religious and devotional ceremonies, authoring several books such as Al-Hurriyya min wajhat nazar al-Islam wa al-gharb (Freedom from the Perspective of Islam and the West), teaching over two hundred students, and establishing the Madinat al-Ilm Institute.

He was also involved in publishing an influential French-language periodical called Shu'ā' al-Hikma (Ray of Wisdom) on topics of jurisprudence and theology, which gained popularity among Muslims in Europe. He was a member of the General Assembly of the World Assembly of Ahl al-Bayt. He traveled to many European countries to give lectures and promote the school of the Ahl al-Bayt (a), and also actively participated in international conferences.

During his activities in Belgium, Abdullah Duhduh familiarized hundreds of people from that country and Morocco with the school of the Ahl al-Bayt. His students now teach at universities in Belgium and other European countries.

Duhduh attended the fifth session of the World Assembly of Ahl al-Bayt (a) held in September 2011 in Tehran, and also met with Ayatollah Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Martyrdom

Abdullah Duhduh was martyred on March 12, 2012 CE by Takfiri terrorists in Brussels. According to reports, the terrorists attacked the Imam Reza Mosque and set it on fire, and Abdullah Duhduh was martyred in this fire. The main defendant stated in court sessions that he wanted to avenge Syrians who were being killed by Shi'as. The funeral of Duhduh has been described as one of the most magnificent funerals in Belgium; scholars and followers of various religions and sects, including Judaism, Christianity, Muslims, Shi'as, Sunnis, and different groups, participated in his funeral procession. Duhduh's body was transferred to his birthplace in Tangier, Morocco, and buried there. The Belgian court also sentenced the main defendant to 27 years in prison.

Documentary "Phoenix"

A documentary titled Phoenix (Qoqnoos) was broadcast on Islamic Republic of Iran television in 2015 CE, focusing on the life of Abdullah Duhduh as well as the Shi'as of Belgium.

This film has so far received the Documentary Network Award from the Cinema Verité Festival, the Certificate of Honor and the First Prize in the Islamic Awakening and Global section of the Ammar Popular Film Festival, and also won the festival statue at the 9th Ruyish Religious Short Film Festival.
