Al-Ṣalawāt al-Shaʿbānīyya (Arabic: اَلصَّلَوات الشَّعبانِيَّة) is a supplication quoted from Imam al-Sajjad (a) which is recommended to be recited every day in the month of Sha'ban at noon and midnight. Shi'a usually recite it between Zuhr and 'Asr prayers. The general message of this Salawat is explanation of the position of the Ahl al-Bayt (a) and emphasis on their Wilaya.

Sources

In Misbah al-mutahajjid,^[1] al-Shaykh al-Tusi narrated that Imam al-Sajjad (a) recited this Salawat every day of Sha'ban toward the sunset and also at midnight. Other books such as Iqbal al-a'mal^[2] and Jamal al-usbu'^[3] have narrated it through al-Shaykh al-Tusi. What is narrated in Jamal al-usbu has differences with other versions of the narration. Also in Mafatih al-jinan, this supplication has been narrated in the common practices in the month of Sha'ban. Mawla Ahmad Wa'iz Yazdi (d. 1310/1892) has written Sharh du'a shajarat al-nubuwwa as a commentary on Salawat Sha'baniyya which includes 8000 verses of poem.^[4]

Messages

In this supplication, the phrase of Salawat has been repeated several times. In this supplication, the reciter asks God to send peace upon the Prophet (s) and his family (a).
What is most emphasized in Salawat Sha'baniyya is the position of the Ahl al-Bayt (a) and Imams (a).
The Ahl al-Bayt (a) are the treasures of knowledge, the community where angels commute, position of divine mission and revelation.
The Ahl al-Bayt (a) are like a rescue ship in crashing waves that if anyone clings on to will be saved and if anyone misses them will be drowned.
Going ahead of or being left behind of the Ahl al-Bayt (a) will be obstacles to rescue and only those reach salvation who properly follow with the Ahl al-Bayt (a).
God has made it obligatory to people to observe the rights of the Ahl al-Bayt (a), be obedience to them and accept their Wilaya.
In this supplication, the reciter asks God to construct the house of his heart through obedience to God and does not make him embarrassed through transgression.
Another message of this supplication is requesting the opportunity to help the poor and the needy.
The month of Sha'ban is a month in which the Prophet (s) prayed its special prayers, fasted during its days and stayed the night vigil in its nights.
In this supplication, the reciter also requests for the opportunity to follow the noble Prophet (s) in observing the practices of the month of Sha'ban and also for his intercession and for forgiveness.

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَی مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، شَجَرَةِ النُّبُوَّةِ وَ مَوْضِعِ الرِّسَالَةِ، وَ مُخْتَلَفِ الْمَلائِکَةِ، وَ مَعْدِنِ الْعِلْمِ وَ أَهْلِ بَیْتِ الْوَحْیِ

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَی مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، الْفُلْکِ الْجَارِیَةِ فِی اللُّجَجِ الْغَامِرَةِ، یَأْمَنُ مَنْ رَکِبَهَا وَ یَغْرَقُ مَنْ ترکها، الْمُتَقَدِّمُ لَهُمْ مَارِقٌ وَ الْمُتَأَخِّرُ عَنْهُمْ زَاهِقٌ وَ اللازِمُ لَهُمْ لاحِقٌ

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَی مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، الطَّیِّبِینَ الْأَبْرَارِ الْأَخْیَارِ الَّذِینَ أَوْجَبْتَ حُقُوقَهُمْ وَ فَرَضْتَ طَاعَتَهُمْ وَ وِلایَتَهُمْ

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَی مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، وَ اعْمُرْ قَلْبِی بِطَاعَتِکَ وَ لا تُخْزِنِی بِمَعْصِیَتِکَ، وَ ارْزُقْنِی مُوَاسَاةَ مَنْ قَتَّرْتَ عَلَیْهِ مِنْ رِزْقِکَ بِمَا وَسَّعْتَ عَلَیَّ مِنْ فَضْلِکَ وَ نَشَرْتَ عَلَیَّ مِنْ عَدْلِکَ وَ أَحْیَیْتَنِی تَحْتَ ظِلِّکَ. وَ هَذَا شَهْرُ نَبِیِّکَ سَیِّدِ رُسُلِکَ شَعْبَانُ الَّذِی حَفَفْتَهُ مِنْکَ بِالرَّحْمَةِ وَ الرِّضْوَانِ، الَّذِی کَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَیْهِ وَ آلِهِ و سَلَّمَ یَدْأَبُ فِی صِیَامِهِ وَ قِیَامِهِ فِی لَیَالِیهِ وَ أَیَّامِهِ بُخُوعا لَکَ فِی إِکْرَامِهِ وَ إِعْظَامِهِ إِلَی مَحَلِّ حِمَامِهِ

اللَّهُمَّ فَأَعِنَّا عَلَی الاسْتِنَانِ بِسُنَّتِهِ فِیهِ وَ نَیْلِ الشَّفَاعَةِ لَدَیْهِ

اللَّهُمَّ وَ اجْعَلْهُ لِی شَفِیعاً مُشَفَّعا وَ طَرِیقاً إِلَیْکَ مَهْیَعا وَ اجْعَلْنِی لَهُ مُتَّبِعا حَتَّی أَلْقَاکَ یَوْمَ الْقِیَامَةِ عَنِّی رَاضِیا وَ عَنْ ذُنُوبِی غَاضِیا قَدْ أَوْجَبْتَ لِی مِنْکَ الرَّحْمَةَ وَ الرِّضْوَانَ وَ أَنْزَلْتَنِی دَارَ الْقَرَارِ وَ مَحَلَّ الْأَخْیَارِ

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَی مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، شَجَرَةِ النُّبُوَّةِ وَ مَوْضِعِ الرِّسَالَةِ، وَ مُخْتَلَفِ الْمَلائِکَةِ، وَ مَعْدِنِ الْعِلْمِ وَ أَهْلِ بَیْتِ الْوَحْیِ

O' Allah! Bestow Your blessing on Muhammad and his progeny, the tree of prophethood and the afrode of Your Messages, the place of visits of the angels, the mine of Your Knowledge and the people of the Holy House of revelation

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَی مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، الْفُلْکِ الْجَارِیَةِ فِی اللُّجَجِ الْغَامِرَةِ، یَأْمَنُ مَنْ رَکِبَهَا وَ یَغْرَقُ مَنْ ترکها، الْمُتَقَدِّمُ لَهُمْ مَارِقٌ وَ الْمُتَأَخِّرُ عَنْهُمْ زَاهِقٌ وَ اللازِمُ لَهُمْ لاحِقٌ

O' Allah! Bestow Your blessing on Muhammad and his progeny, who are a boat sailing in the deep waters of fathomless sea, safe is he who boarded it, and drowned is he who discarded it. Those who went ahead of them were misled and those legged behind them were ruined and those who adhered to them were united with them

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَی مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، الْکَهْفِ الْحَصِینِ وَ غِیَاثِ الْمُضْطَرِّ الْمُسْتَکِینِ، وَ مَلْجَإِ الْهَارِبِینَ وَ عِصْمَةِ الْمُعْتَصِمِینَ

O' Allah! Bless Mohammad and his progeny, who are the strong refuge and rescue for the distressed and the helpless, and shelter for the fugitives and protection

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَی مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، صَلاةً کَثِیرَةً تَکُونُ لَهُمْ رِضًی وَ لِحَقِّ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ أَدَاءً وَ قَضَاء بِحَوْلٍ مِنْکَ وَ قُوَّةٍ، یَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِینَ

O' Allah! Bless Mohammad and his progeny, abundant blessing to satisfy them and to make us fulfill their rights upon us with Your power, O' the Lord of the worlds

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَی مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، الطَّیِّبِینَ الْأَبْرَارِ الْأَخْیَارِ الَّذِینَ أَوْجَبْتَ حُقُوقَهُمْ وَ فَرَضْتَ طَاعَتَهُمْ وَ وِلایَتَهُمْ

O' Allah! Bless Mohammad and his progeny, the pure the pious the righteous whose rights have been made incumbent upon us by You and the obedience to whom has been deemed obligatory upon us by You and whose (divinely commissioned) leadership has been (also) deemed obligatory upon us by You

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَی مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، وَ اعْمُرْ قَلْبِی بِطَاعَتِکَ وَ لا تُخْزِنِی بِمَعْصِیَتِکَ، وَ ارْزُقْنِی مُوَاسَاةَ مَنْ قَتَّرْتَ عَلَیْهِ مِنْ رِزْقِکَ بِمَا وَسَّعْتَ عَلَیَّ مِنْ فَضْلِکَ وَ نَشَرْتَ عَلَیَّ مِنْ عَدْلِکَ وَ أَحْیَیْتَنِی تَحْتَ ظِلِّکَ. وَ هَذَا شَهْرُ نَبِیِّکَ سَیِّدِ رُسُلِکَ شَعْبَانُ الَّذِی حَفَفْتَهُ مِنْکَ بِالرَّحْمَةِ وَ الرِّضْوَانِ، الَّذِی کَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَیْهِ وَ آلِهِ و سَلَّمَ یَدْأَبُ فِی صِیَامِهِ وَ قِیَامِهِ فِی لَیَالِیهِ وَ أَیَّامِهِ بُخُوعا لَکَ فِی إِکْرَامِهِ وَ إِعْظَامِهِ إِلَی مَحَلِّ حِمَامِهِ

O' Allah! Bless Mohammad and his progeny, and embellish my heart with obedience to You and disgrace me not with disobedience to You, and bless me with tenderness for one struck with poverty from Your sustenance for You have blessed me with affluence in livelihood and because You have displayed Your justice on me and bestowed life on me to live under Your shade. And this is the month You have attributed to Your Prophet the chief of Your Prophets month of Sha'ban You have encompassed it with your mercy and pleasure, the one that the Messenger of Allah used to keep vigil in devotion during its nights and observed fasts during its days humiliating himself before You honoring and respecting it till his departure from this World

اللَّهُمَّ فَأَعِنَّا عَلَی الاسْتِنَانِ بِسُنَّتِهِ فِیهِ وَ نَیْلِ الشَّفَاعَةِ لَدَیْهِ

O' Allah! Help us in following his life pattern and in achieving his intercession

اللَّهُمَّ وَ اجْعَلْهُ لِی شَفِیعاً مُشَفَّعا وَ طَرِیقاً إِلَیْکَ مَهْیَعا وَ اجْعَلْنِی لَهُ مُتَّبِعا حَتَّی أَلْقَاکَ یَوْمَ الْقِیَامَةِ عَنِّی رَاضِیا وَ عَنْ ذُنُوبِی غَاضِیا قَدْ أَوْجَبْتَ لِی مِنْکَ الرَّحْمَةَ وَ الرِّضْوَانَ وَ أَنْزَلْتَنِی دَارَ الْقَرَارِ وَ مَحَلَّ الْأَخْیَارِ

O' Allah! Appoint him as an intercessor for me and his intercession is accepted by You and appoint him to show us a simple path towards You and make me his follower till I meet You on the day of resurrection in a state that You be pleased with me ignoring my sins for You have prescribed mercy and pleasure from you and my entertainment a peaceful abode and the abode of virtuous people
