Zīyāra Amīn Allāh (Arabic: زيارة أمين الله) is a ziyara-text recited by Imam al-Sajjad (a) when visiting the holy shrine of Imam Ali (a). This ziyara-text is regarded credible in terms of the text, content, and chain of transmission; and has been reported in authentic Shia sources. Ziyara Amin Allah is the special ziyara-text for Imam Ali (a) to be recited on the Eid al-Ghadir and also one of the general ziyara-texts that can be recited near the shrine of any of the Imams.

Transmitters

According to the accounts of Ibn al-Mashhadi in al-Mazar al-kabir[1] and Ibn Qulawayh in Kamil al-ziyarat[2], this report has been narrated by Ahmad b. 'Ali from his father from Imam al-Rida (a) from his fathers (a) from Imam al-Sajjad (a). Al-Majlisi has narrated this report with the same chain of transmission in Bihar al-anwar.

Al-Shaykh al-Tusi[3], al-Sayyid b. Tawus[4], al-Shahid al-Awwal[5] and al-Kaf'ami[6] have narrated this report from Jabir b. Yazid al-Ju'fi from Imam al-Baqir (a), they also mention a chain of transmission like that of Kamil al-ziyarat.

Authenticity

In Mafatih al-jinan, Shaykh 'Abbas Qummi lists this ziyara as the second ziyara-text of Imam Ali (a) and says: the second ziyara, famously known as the ziyara Amin Allah, is of the utmost authenticity and has been narrated in all ziyara and supplication sources. Al-'Allama al-Majlisi has stated that it is the best ziyara, and it is highly credible in terms of the text and chain of transmission, it must be recited in all holy shrines.[7]

In Bihar al-anwar, al-Majlisi writes: we have narrated this ziyara and repeated it for some reasons, 1- in terms of the differences of the text 2- and also, in terms of the chain of transmission, this ziyara is one of the most authentic ones. 3- In terms of the wide range of places and situations in which this ziyara can be recited, it is the most comprehensive one, and can be recited in all holy shrines.

Significance

Imam al-Baqir (a) says about the significance of this ziyara: "whoever among the Shia recites this ziyara-text near the tomb of Imam 'Ali (a) or near the tomb of any of the Imams, Allah, Exalted is He, takes this ziyara and supplication to heaven in an envelope of light and signs it with the seal of Prophet Muhammad (s) and it will be preserved till the time it is given to al-Qa'im from the progeny of Muhammad (a), and then he welcomes its owner with glad tidings, greetings and honor."[8]

This ziyara is both a special ziyara of Imam 'Ali (a) on the Eid al-Ghadir and one of the general ziyaras that can be recited near the shrines of all Imams.[9]

Instructions

The famous account that has been reported in Mafatih al-jinan, is from Jabir b. Yazid al-Ju'fi from Imam al-Baqir (a) who says: "Imam al-Sajjad (a) went to visit Imam 'Ali's shrine, stood by his grave, recited this ziyara while he was crying."[10] According to the report, Imam al-Sajjad (a) recited this ziyara in two positions near the tomb of Imam Ali (a):

  1. He recited the first part while standing and crying
  2. The second part, which begins with this phrase: "O Allah the hearts of the humble are loving toward you …" to the end, Imam al-Sajjad (a) recited this part while he had put his face on the grave of Imam Ali (a).[11]

Content

This ziyara-text has been reported through different chains of transmission. Nearly all of them share the same content while there are slight differences in some phrases.

  1. At the beginning, there are some short phrases of greetings and salutations to the infallible Imam, followed by testimonies to some of Imam's characteristics.
  2. A remarkable portion of the ziyara has been dedicated to making requests from God, supplications for human happiness and perfection.
  3. Then, there are some supplication.
  4. There are some educative teachings in this ziyara.[12]
