Subul al-rashād ilā aṣḥāb al-Imām al-Jawād ʿalayh al-salām (Arabic: سُبُلُ الرَّشاد إلی اَصحاب الاِمام الجَواد علیه‌السلام; literally: paths of guidance towards the companions of Imam al-Jawad peace be upon him) is a book in Arabic written by 'Abd al-Husayn Shabistari (d. 1395 sh/2016-7) in which companions of Imam al-Jawad (a) are introduced. The author lists 193 companions of, and transmitters of hadiths from, Imam al-Jawad (a), the ninth Imam of the Shia, in alphabetic order.

Motivation

The author writes in the introduction: "when I found that there is no book in Islamic libraries concerning the companions of Imam al-Jawad (a), I set up to write this book, collecting all companions and students of, and transmitters of hadiths from, the Imam (a), those who heard hadiths from him orally or via correspondences, and those who transmitted hadiths from him and those who did not."

Contents

At the opening of the book, the author provides a brief biography of Imam al-Jawad (a) based on Shiite and Sunni historical books, and then introduces the companions of the Imam (a) in alphabetic order. After the citation of names and titles, the author records sources in which the companion is discussed (with exact volume and page numbers). The author rests content to this, without citing views by scholars of rijal.

Publication

The book was first published in 1380 sh/2001-2 in the Expertise Library of Islamic and Iranian History in Qom. This publication involves indexes of names, books, authors as well as places and tribes.
