List of Libraries in Najaf refers to the historical and contemporary collection of public and private libraries in the city of Najaf. These institutions held significant importance due to the presence of the Seminary of Najaf and the residence of numerous Shi'a scholars. However, the passage of time, lack of maintenance, negligence in preservation, and the fragmentation of private collections among heirs or their sale have led to the disappearance of the majority of them.[1] Some researchers maintain that, with the exception of the Alawiyya Library, no library in Najaf has survived for more than 150 or 200 years.[2] According to Rasul Jafariyan, Murtada Gilani (d. 1420/1999), known as Mudarris, compiled a list of libraries in Najaf in his work Tarikh-i Najaf (History of Najaf), which includes the following:

- Hadratī or 'Alawī Library: Named Maktabat al-Rawda al-Haydariyya, it is located within the courtyard of the Shrine of Imam 'Ali (a).
- Bahr al-'Ulūm Library: Attributed to Sayyid Muhammad Mahdi Bahr al-'Ulum (d. 1212/1797).
- Shaykh Ja'far Kashif al-Ghita' Library: Attributed to the author of Kashf al-ghita' (d. 1227/1812).
- Turayḥī Library: Attributed to Shaykh Fakhr al-Din al-Turayhi (d. 1085/1674), the author of Majma' al-bahrayn.
- Sayyid 'Azīz Library: Belonging to the ancestor of the Al-i Sayyid Safi family.
- Hilāl Library: Attributed to Sayyid Ahmad Hilala Najafi.
- Āl-i Muḥyī al-Dīn Library: Attributed to Shaykh Muhammad b. Yusuf Najafi of the Al-i Muhyi al-Din family.
- Niẓām al-Dawla Library: Attributed to 'Ali Muhammad Khan Nizam al-Dawla b. Amin al-Dawla 'Abd Allah Khan b. Muhammad Husayn Khan Sadr-i A'zam Isfahani (d. 1376/1956).
- Iṣfahānī Library: Attributed to Shaykh Muhammad Baqir Aqa Najafi Isfahani (d. 1301/1884), the father of Aqa Najafi Isfahani.
- Sayyid Mīrzā al-Iṣfahānī Library.
- Sayyid 'Alī Baḥr al-'Ulūm Library: Attributed to Sayyid 'Ali b. Rida b. Muhammad Mahdi Burujirdi Bahr al-'Ulum (d. 1298/1881).
- Sayyid Muḥammad Baḥr al-'Ulūm Library: Attributed to Sayyid Muhammad b. Muhammad Taqi b. Rida b. Muhammad Mahdi Bahr al-'Ulum.
- Nūrī Library: Attributed to Mirza Husayn Nuri (d. 1321/1903).
- Yazdī Library: Attributed to Sayyid Muhammad Kazim Tabataba'i Yazdi (d. 1334/1916).
- Sharī'at Iṣfahānī Library: Attributed to Shaykh Fath Allah b. Muhammad Jawad, known as Shari'at Isfahani (d. 1339/1921).
- Bayt al-'Abūdī Library.

- Bayt al-Dujaym Library: Attributed to Shaykh 'Abd al-Rahim.
- Bayt al-Mashhadī Library: Attributed to Shaykh Ibrahim b. 'Ali Rab'i Mashhadi.
- Bayt al-Najaf Library: Attributed to Haj Najaf Tabrizi.
- Bayt al-Ḥakīm Library: Also known as al-Hakim Library, attributed to Sayyid Muhsin al-Hakim (d. 1390/1970).
- Jazā'irī Library: Attributed to Shaykh Ahmad Jaza'iri (d. 1151/1738).
- Shaykh Hādī Library: Attributed to Shaykh Hadi Al Kashif al-Ghita'.
- Samāwī Library: Attributed to Shaykh Muhammad Samawi (d. 1371/1952).
- Sayyid Baḥr al-'Ulūm Library: Attributed to Sayyid Ja'far Al-i Bahr al-'Ulum.
- Khwānsārī Library: Attributed to Shaykh Muhammad 'Ali b. Muhammad Hasan Khwansari, a student of Habib Allah al-Rashti.
- Āl-i Qazwīnī Library: Attributed to Sayyid Ahmad Qazwini.
- Shūshtarī Husayniyya Library: Established by Haj Muhammad Rida Shushtari; the library of Shaykh 'Ali Muhammad Najafabadi Isfahani was transferred here following his death.
- Sayyid 'Abbās Kharsān Library: Established by Sayyid 'Abd al-Rasul Kharsan.
- Sayyid Muḥammad Ḥusayn Kishwān Library: Attributed to Sayyid Muhammad Husayn Kishwan[Note 1], a scholar of Najaf.

- Muḥyī al-Dīn Library: Attributed to the man of letters, Shaykh Qasim Muhyi al-Din.
- Tihrānī Library: Attributed to Agha Buzurg Tihrani (d. 1389/1970), the author of al-Dhari'a.
- Sayyid Muḥammad Ṣādiq Library: Attributed to Sayyid Muhammad Sadiq Al-i Bahr al-'Ulum.
- Zanjānī Library: Attributed to Shaykh Jawad Zanjani (d. 1350/1931). This collection was transferred to the Shushtari Husayniyya after his death.
- 'Āmma Library.

- Khāmanih'ī Library: Attributed to Sayyid Dana Muhammad, known as Khamaneh'i (d. 1352/1933). This collection was transferred to the Shushtari Husayniyya after his death.
- [Imam] 'Alī Library: Named Maktabat al-Imam Amir al-Mu'minin al-Amma, this library was established in Najaf by 'Allama al-Amini (d. 1390/1970), the author of al-Ghadir.
- Tihrānī Library: Attributed to Shaykh Muhammad Taqi Tihrani (d. 1357/1938). This collection was transferred to the Shushtari Husayniyya after his death.
- Astarābādī Library: Attributed to Sayyid Muhammad Rida Astarabadi (d. 1336/1917). This collection was transferred to the Shushtari Husayniyya after his death.
- Yazdī Madrasa Library: Attributed to the Madrasa of Sayyid Muhammad Kazim Tabataba'i Yazdi.
- Tabāṭabā'ī Madrasa Library: Attributed to Sayyid Husayn Tabataba'i Burujirdi (d. 1340 Sh/1961).
- Zanjānī Library: Attributed to Shaykh Asad Allah Zanjani, a student of Shari'at Isfahani and Muhammad Husayn Na'ini.
- Small Khurasani Madrasa Library.
- Shūshtarī Library: Attributed to Sayyid Ahmad Shushtari Jaza'iri, known as Sayyid Aqa Jaza'iri.
- Gīlānī Library: Attributed to Shaykh Sha'ban Gilani (d. 1348/1929).
- Māzandarānī Library: Attributed to Shaykh 'Abd Allah Mazandarani (d. 1330/1912).
- Library [name missing]: Attributed to Sayyid Jawad b. Muhammad Hasan Husayni 'Amili (d. 1226/1811), a student of Wahid al-Bihbahani. It appears that no trace of this library remains.
- Māmaqānī Library: Attributed to Shaykh Muhammad Hasan Fadil Mamaqani (d. 1323/1905).
- Shaykh Shūshtarī Library: Attributed to Ja'far al-Shushtari (d. 1303/1886).
- Ḥirz al-Dīn Library: Attributed to Shaykh Muhammad Hirz al-Din al-Najafi (d. 1365/1946).
- Rashtī Library: Attributed to Shaykh Abd al-Husayn al-Rashti (d. 1373/1954).
