Prophets
According to sources, two of Ulu l-'Azm prophets are buried in the Darih of Holy Shrine of Imam Ali (a).
In a narration from Imam al-Sadiq, it is said: Whenever you visit Imam Ali b. Abi Talib (a), know that you have visited Prophet Adam (a), Prophet Nuh (a), and Imam Ali b. Abi Talib (a).
Scholars and Marja's (Shiite authorities)
Famous scholars and Marja's (Shiite authorities) buried in the shrine of Imam Ali (a) and their place of burial in the order of the year of death are:
- Musa b. Ja'far b. Tawus, the father of Ahmad b. Tawus and Al-Sayyid b. Tawus (d. 601/1204-5): Buried in the rawaq of the shrine.
- Warram b. Abi Firas al-Hilli (d. 605/1208-9]], the maternal ancestor of Sayyid b. Tawus.
- Al-Sayyid 'Abd al-Karim b. Ahmad al-Hilli (b. 648/1250-1, d. 693/1294), Sayyid b. Tawus' nephew: Buried in the rawaq.
- Al-'Allama al-Hilli, al-Hasan b. Yusuf b. Mutahhar al-Hilli (b. 648/1250, d. 726/1325), buried inside the shrine on the left side of Bab al-Saghir under the northern minaret.
- Muhammad b. al-Hasan al-Hilli (b. 682/1283, d. 771/1369-70) known as Fakhr al-Muhaqqiqin, the son of Al-'Allama al-Hilli: According to some sources, he was buried in golden iwan[1] near his father.
- Al-Muqaddas al-Ardabili (d. 993/1585-6): golden iwan, South Minaret.
- 'Ali Naqi kamara'i Farahani (b. 1060/1650): buried in Iwan al-'Ulama'(scholars iwan).
- Muhammad Mahdi Naraqi (b. 1128/1716, d. 1209/1795), the author of Jami' al-Sa'adat, known as Muhaqqiq Naraqi, and the father of Mulla Ahmad Naraqi.
- Abu 'Ali al-Ha'iri (b. 1159/1746-7, d. 1215/1800-1 1216/1801-2), Imami jurist of the 13th century, the author of Muntaha l-maqal fi ahwal al-rijal.
- Al-Sayyid Muhammad Jawad al-'Amili (b. 1160/1747, d. 1226/1811), the author of Miftah al-Karama fi Sharh Qawa'id al-'Allama: buried in room(Hujra) number 7.
- Mulla Ahmad al-Naraqi (b. 1185/1771-2, d. 1245/1829): buried in Iwan al-'Ulama'.
- Sulayman b. Muhammad Rafi' al-Tunikabuni (d. around 1250/1834), Iranian Shiite sage and physician of the 13th century.
- Muhammad Ja'far al-Astarabadi known as Shari'atmadar (b. 1195/1781 1198/1784, d. 1263/1847): buried in the golden iwan under the northern minaret.
- Sayyid Sadr al-Din Musawi al-'Amili (b. 1193/1779-80, d. 1264/1847-8), the son of Sayyid Salih (b. 1122/1710-1, d. 1217/1802-3) and the father of Aqa Mujtahid (Muhammad 'Ali Musawi al-'Amili) and Al-Sayyid Isma'il al-Sadr: buried in room number 3 of Imam Ali (a) shrine.
- Muhammad 'Ali Musawi al-'Amili (b. 1239/1823-4, d. 1264/1858) known as Aqa Mujtahid.
- Al-Shaykh Murtada al-Ansari (b. 1214/1800 - d. 1281/1864), the author of al-Makasib: buried in room number 11.
- Al-Sayyid 'Ali b. Rida Bahr al-'Ulum (b. 1224/1809-10, d. 1298/1880-1), the author of al-burhan al-Qati' fi Sharh al-Mukhtasar al-Nafi: buried in room number 41.
- Al-Shaykh Ja'far al-Shushtari (b. 1230/1814-15, d. 1303/1885): the author of Al-Khasa'is al-Husayniyya: buried in room number 59.
- Al-Sayyid Haydar al-Hilli (b.1246/1830-1, d.1304/1886-7), A Shiite poet and elegist from Hillah, buried in Ra's Sabat
From the north side, between the tombs of Sayyid Mirza Ja'far Qazwini and Sheikh Shaykh Ja'far al-Shushtari.
- Mirza Muhammad Hasan al-Shirazi (b.1230/1815, d.1312/1895), known as Mirza-yi Shirazi and Mujaddid Shirazi, the issuer of the Tobacco ban fatwa (1309/1891): buried in al-Madrasa al-Gharawiyya in the holy courtyard.
- Mirza Habib Allah Rashti (b. 1234/1819, d. 1312/1894), the author of Badayi' al-Afkar: buried in room number 26.
- Mirza Muhammad Hasan Ashtiyani (b. 1248/1832-33, d. 1319/1901-02): buried in Balasar mosque (Western rawaq).
- Mirza Husayn Nuri (b. 1254/1839, d. 1320/1902), known as Muhaddith Nuri and Haji Nuri: buried in the iwan, room number 15.
- al-Shaykh Muhammad Hadi al-Tihrani (b. 1253/1837-8, d. 1321/1903), One of the Shia jurists and usulis: buried in room number 9.
- Fadil Sharabiyani, Muhammad b. Fadl 'Ali al-Sharabiyani (d. 1322/1904-5): buried in the room next to the Iwan al-'Ulama'.
- al-Sayyid 'Abd Allah al-Bihbahani (b. about 1256/1840, d. 1328/1910), One of the leaders of Persian Constitutional Revolution: buried in room number 29.
- Muhammad Kazim al-Khurasani (b. 1255/1839, d. 1329/1911), known as Akhund Khurasani, the author of Kifaya al-'usul: buried in room number 26.

- Abu l-Qasim al-Mamaqani (b. 1285/1868-9, d. 1351/1932-3), the son of Muhammad Hasan and the brother of 'Abd Allah al-Mamaqani (the author of Tanqih al-maqal), who has works such as: Commentary on Supplication of Kumayl, Miqbas al-Karama fi Sharh Tabsira al-'allama, Ghayat al-Ma'mul fi 'Ilm al-Usul: buried in front of room number 21.
