Musnad al-Imām al-Shahīd Abī Abd Allāh al-Ḥusayn b. Alī (a) (Arabic: مسند الإمام الشهید أبي عبدالله الحسین بن علي) is a historical book in Arabic written by Aziz Allah Atarudi. The book is in three volumes and discusses the life of Imam al-Husayn (a) and issues about Imam (a). One of the features of this book is collecting the words of Imam al-Husayn (a) with their chains of transmission and mentioning the transmitters and therefore, it is considered among hadiths and rijal works.

The Author

Aziz Allah Atarudi (1928-9 - 2014) was the author of different works on hadiths, history, geography, Philology and indexing. He was born in the village of Biglar of Quchan, Iran. He studied in the seminaries of Quchan, Mashhad, Tehran and Najaf. Atarudi published a collection of masanid of the Ahl al-Bayt (a).

Content

Musnad al-Imam al-Shahid was published in 1700 pages and three volumes and contains all the stages of life and characteristics of Imam (a). The book is organized in three chapters:

Chapter 1: Life, uprising and martyrdom of Imam (a) and those who were martyred with him.

Chapter 2: Hadiths of Imam al-Husayn (a) (reports about Imam (a) with the topics of the Unity of God, Imamate, rulings, ethics and Islamic traditions)

Chapter 3: Collection of transmitters of hadiths from Imam al-Husayn (a) (identification of transmitters of hadiths in alphabetical order beginning with Ibrahim b. Sa'id and ends with Yunus b. Abi Ishaq).

Ending: Which contains elegies some poets composed in fourteen centuries for the mourning of Sayyid al-Shuhada' (a))

Sources

The author has tried to benefit mostly from authentic and famous historical, hadiths and biography sources such as Bihar al-anwar, al-Irshad, Tarikh by al-Tabari, Akhbar al-tiwal, Maqtal by Abu Mikhnaf, Maqatil al-talibiyyin and has also benefited from contemporary sources such as al-Kuna wa l-alqab and Maqtal by Muqarram.

Publication

Musnad al-Imam al-Shahid was published in three volumes in Arabic by Atarud publications in 1376 Sh/1997-8.
