Tasmīya man qutil maʿa l-Ḥusayn b. ʿAlī ʿalayh al-salām min wuldih wa ikhwatih wa ahlih wa shīʿatih (Arabic: تَسْمیَةُ مَنْ قُتِلَ مَعَ الحُسَیْن بْن عَلیّ علیهالسّلام مِنْ وُلْده و إخْوَته و أهْله و شیعَته, literally: the names of those who were murdered together with al-Husayn b. 'Ali (a), from his children and brothers and family and followers) is a short essay by al-Fudayl b. al-Zubayr al-Kufi, written in the second/eighth century.
As the title of the book reveals, the author introduces the Martyrs of Karbala, and in some cases, their murderers.
Author
Al-Fudayl b. al-Zubayr b. 'Amr al-Kufi al-Asadi, known as al-Rassan, was a companion of, and a transmitter of hadiths from, Imam al-Baqir (a) and Imam al-Sadiq (a). He and his brother, 'Abd Allah, were Shiite muhaddiths who also participated in the Uprising of Zayd b. 'Ali. Thus, he is said to be a Zaydi.
Style of Writing and Contents
In this work, al-Fudayl b. al-Zubayr names 106 Martyrs of Karbala, including people from Ahl al-Bayt (a) and companions of Imam al-Husayn (a). Twenty of them are from Ahl al-Bayt (a), and the rest are companions of the Imam (a).
The author's only aim is to name the Martyrs of Karbala and sometimes their murderers. He does not provide more information, except in one or two cases, such as 'Ali al-Asghar. At the end of the essay, the author provides brief information about some events after the martyrdom of Imam al-Husayn (a). Since the book is short, the author does not cite his sources and transmitters. However, the editor of the book has pointed to its chain of transmitters in his introduction to the book.
Publication
The work is only ten pages and has been published in the journal of Turathuna (1986/1406, issue 2).
