Mujammiʿ b. ʿAbd Allāh al-ʿĀʾidhī (Arabic: مُجَمِّع بن عبدالله العائِذِي) was a companion of Imam Ali (a)[1] and one of the martyrs of Karbala.[2] He belonged to the Tabi'un (the generation succeeding the companions of the Prophet (s)).[3] He hailed from the Madhhij tribe.[4] It is believed that his father, 'Abd Allah b. Mujammi', was a companion of the Prophet (s).[5]

According to sources, Mujammi' was among the four individuals who, led by al-Tirimmah b. 'Adi,[6] journeyed from Kufa to join Imam al-Husayn (a) in the region of 'Udhayb al-Hijanat, situated near Kufa. Upon their arrival, Hurr b. Yazid al-Riyahi approached Imam al-Husayn (a) and questioned the legitimacy of these newcomers, suggesting they be detained or returned to Kufa. However, Imam al-Husayn (a) defended them, affirming their status as his supporters and companions, and warned Hurr of potential conflict should he interfere. Consequently, Hurr relented. Imam al-Husayn (a) then sought information from the four about the prevailing sentiment in Kufa. Mujammi' conveyed that the city's elites and prominent figures had been bribed and were uniformly opposed to the Imam (a), while others harbored sympathy for him inwardly but would brandish their swords against him. Additionally, Imam al-Husayn (a) inquired about his messenger to Kufa, Qays b. Mushir al-Saydawi, and learned of his martyrdom.[7] It is worth noting that in some historical accounts, this narrative involves Mujammi' b. 'Abd Allah al-'Amiri.[8]

According to the accounts of Abu Mikhnaf and al-Tabari, Mujammi' entered the battlefield alongside 'Amr b. Khalid al-Saydawi, his servant Sa'd, and Jabir b. Harith al-Salmani at the outset of the conflict. However, they found themselves surrounded by 'Umar Sa'd's army. al-Abbas b. Ali (a) came to their aid, rescuing them despite their numerous injuries. Subsequently, the enemy forces closed in once more and killed all four men in the same location.[9] Mujammi' was reportedly fifty years old at the time of his martyrdom.[10]

In certain accounts, Mujammi' is also mentioned as having participated in the Battle of Siffin.[11]

In both Ziyara al-Shuhada'[12] and al-Ziyara al-Rajabiyya for Imam al-Husayn (a),[13] Mujammi' b. 'Abd Allah al-'A'idhi is honored with the phrase "peace be upon him." However, in Ziyara al-Shuhada' as cited in al-Mazar al-kabir authored by Ibn Mashhadi, his name is mentioned as "al-'A'idi."[14]

According to Muhammad al-Samawi in Ibsar al-'Ayn, 'A'idh, the son of Mujammi', was among the four individuals who joined Imam al-Husayn (a) and was martyred alongside his father[15] in the event of Karbala.[16]
