Bayt al-aḥzān fī maṣāʾib sayyidat al-niswān (Arabic:بیت الاحزان في مصائب سیدة النسوان) is a historical book in Arabic about the life of Lady Fatima al-Zahra' (a). Shaykh Abbas Qummi, a Shi'a scholar of the fourteenth/twentieth century, wrote this work in 1330/1911-2 and organized it in different chapters from Lady Fatima's (a) birth until her martyrdom and mentioned only the historical events. The book has had different translations and different prints.

Author

'Abbas b. Muhammad Rida al-Qummi (b. 1294/1877-8 - d. 1359/1941), known as Shaykh 'Abbas Qummi and Muhaddith Qummi, was a Shiite scholar of the fourteenth/twentieth century. He was well-known in hadiths and history as well as preaching and orations. Shaykh Abbas Qummi wrote many books, the best-known of which are Mafatih al-jinan, Safinat al-bihar, and Muntaha al-amal. He died in Najaf in 1359/1941 and was buried in the Holy Shrine of Imam Ali (a).[1]

Date of Writing and Title of the Book

The book was written in Qom in 1330/1911-2.[2] In its introduction, Qummi mentioned the title of the book as Bayt al-ahzan fi masa'ib Sayyidat al-Niswan (a),[3] but in some prints, its title is mentioned as Bayt al-ahzan fi dhikr ahwalat Sayyidat Nisa' al-Alamin.[4].[5]

Content

Shaykh Abbas Qummi discussed the life of Lady Fatima al-Zahra (a) in four chapters, each mentioning different issues. The author's approach is not analytical, and in some cases, he has only reviewed hadiths.

In the book's introduction, the author mentions that Bayt al-Hazan contains some chapters, but he does not mention their number. Since the text is written continuously without headings, the order of the chapters is mentioned differently in different prints and translations.
