Qur'an 8:63 was revealed concerning two tribes of the Ansar, specifically the Aws and Khazraj.[1] During the Jahiliyya (Age of Ignorance), these tribes harbored deep-seated enmity and hatred toward one another. However, with the advent of the Prophet of Islam (s) and their subsequent embrace of Islam, God reconciled their hearts and forged a lasting bond of friendship between them. United, they became instrumental in supporting the Prophet (s).[2]

According to various Shi'a exegetes, while the scope of this verse encompasses all believers, including the Muhajirun,[3] its primary and most direct application concerns the Ansar due to their pivotal role in supporting and assisting the Prophet (s).[4]
Certain exegetes view the miraculous reconciliation of these once-hostile hearts as a profound testament to the truthfulness of Islam.[5] They maintain that even if all the world's wealth—encompassing jewels, precious metals, agricultural bounties, and other worldly blessings—were expended, human efforts alone could never have bridged such a bitter divide;[6] only the sovereign will of God could achieve such profound unity.[7]
