Al-Ajfur (Arabic: ألأَجفُر) is among the stations on the way of Mecca and Kufa between Fayd and Khuzaymiya. On the way towards Karbala, meeting of Imam al-Husayn (a) and speaking with 'Abd Allah b. Abi Muti' was perhaps made in this station.

Location

Al-Ajfur is a station on the way of Mecca and Kufa between Fayd and Khuzaymiya.

Events

In this place, caravans of hajj have many times been robbed by thieves, for example, in 285/898-9, the goods of Salih b. Mudrik al-Ta'i and many hajj pilgrims were robbed.

In this place, Imam al-Husayn (a) met 'Abd Allah b. Abi Muti'. In the report of al-Tabari and al-Shaykh al-Mufid, the place of this conversation is not known, but it is considered to be near water after Hajiz and before Zarud. Other sources have mentioned that this conversation was made near Mecca.

Ibn al-Athir reported that Imam al-Husayn (a) and 'Abd Allah b. Abi Muti' first met somewhere between Medina and Mecca and mentions that their second meeting happened after Hajiz. In this meeting, when 'Abd Allah found out about Imam's (a) travel to Iraq, he asked Imam (a) in the name of God to give up his travel. Then he said,

"If you ask Umayyads what they have in hand, by God, they will kill you and if it happens, no one after you would have any respect."

Imam (a) ignored his request and continued his travel.
