Khuzaymiya (Arabic:الخزیمیه) or Ḥuzaymiya (Arabic:الحزیمیه) is one of the stations between Mecca and Kufa. In the Battle of Karbala, after Hajiz station, Imam al-Husayn (a) stayed in Khuzaymiya for one day and night and then moved toward Zarud station. In this place, Lady Zaynab (a), sister of Imam al-Husayn (a), heard a caller who was giving the news about moving the caravan towards death.

Cause of Naming

Khuzaymiya was one of the stations for those who went to hajj between Kufa and Mecca. Its name is attributed to Khuzayma b. Khazim. For one who goes from Mecca to Kufa, it would be after Zarud and before Hajir.[1] Its distance to al-Tha'labiyya is 32 miles and to Ajfar is 24 miles.[2]

Related Events

After Hajir, Imam al-Husayn (a) stayed in Khuzaymiya for one day and night and then went to Zarud.[3] In the morning, Lady Zaynab (a) told her brother,[4] "O brother! Last night, I heard a caller saying,

'O eye! Be filled with tears in trying

Who would cry on the martyrs after me?

On people who are taken by destinies

To the promise to come'"

Then, Imam al-Husayn (a) said, "My sister! Whatever God destines will happen."[5]
