A flag on which "hayhat minna l-dhilla" is written in the procession of Arba'in.

Hayhāt minnā l-dhilla (Arabic: هَیْهَاتَ مِنَّا الذِّلَّة) means "never to humiliation!". It is a famous quotation from Imam al-Husayn (a) on the day of Ashura.

According to historical sources, in the Battle of Karbala, Ubayd Allah b. Ziyad had ordered his army that Imam al-Husayn (a) had to either surrender or accept the war. On the day of Ashura, Imam al-Husayn (a) gave a speech in front of the army of Umar b. Sa'd and said,

"Beware that this illegitimate son (Ubayd Allah) of the illegitimate one (Ziyad b. Abih) has made me choose between the two: drawing sword and humiliation, and never to humiliation!"[1]

Imam al-Husayn (a) declared that since God, the Prophet (s), believers and pure intellects do not accept his surrender, he (a) chooses death over humiliation.[2]

Some sources have narrated "al-daniyya" (Arabic: الدَّنيئة) instead of "al-dhilla", as "wa hayhat minna l-daniyya" (and never to debasement!)[3]

This motto is used among the teachings of Ashura in marches and rituals of Muharram and Safar.
