Al-Ma'had al-Shar'i al-Islami

From wikishia

Al-Maʿhad al-Sharʿī al-Islāmī (Arabic: المعهد الشرعی الاسلامی) is an educational center for Islamic studies in Lebanon.[1] The educational method of this center is considered similar to other Shi'a seminaries, with the difference that new rules have been established to enhance the capabilities of students.[2] This institute was founded in 1966 by Sayyid Muhammad Husayn Fadlallah, a Shi'a Marjaʿ.[3]

Al-Maʿhad al-Sharʿyi al-Islamyi was established with the aim of meeting the needs of the people including the Lebanese society and Muslims in other countries.[4] This center focuses on the training and development of students —considering the position of the clergy in society—as managers, thinkers and scholars.[5] A large number of members of the Lebanese Islamic Resistance, including Raghib Harb, are among the graduates of this center.[6]

Al-Maʿhad al-Sharʿyi al-Islamyi was founded after the old Shi'a seminaries in Jabal ʿAmil had almost disappeared.[7] For this reason, this center is considered the first contemporary seminary in Lebanon.[8] The purpose of establishing this institute has been stated as training students specialized in Islamic studies, familiarizing them with Islamic culture, and empowering them for preaching, research and writing.[9] This center has not remained aloof from collateral activities such as political activities.[10]

This institute is considered one of the subsidiaries of the Sayyid Muhammad Husayn Fadlallah Institution.[11] This center is managed by Zuhayr Qawsan, a Lebanese scholar. is [12] The other faculties of this institute include the Tabligh (Propagation) Center, the Office of Shari'a Affairs, Dar al-Malak Publications and al-Iman Satellite Channel.[13]
