The list of the Companions of Imam al-Sadiq (a) refers to people who are mentioned in Shiite sources as students, transmitters of hadiths, and companions of Imam al-Sadiq (a).
Number
The number of Imam al-Sadiq's students, trasmitters of hadiths, and companions is said to be 3221 by al-Shaykh al-Tusi in his Rijal, 3652 by Qurashi in his Mawsu'at al-Imam al-Sadiq (a), and 3759 by al-Shabistari in his al-Fa'iq. These books also provide brief biographies of the companions of Imam al-Sadiq (a). In his al-Irshad, al-Shaykh al-Mufid says that the number of people who transmitted hadiths from Imam al-Sadiq (a) amounts to 4000. Ibn 'Uqda allegedly wrote a book concerning transmitters of hadiths from Imam al-Sadiq (a), in which 4000 people are listed.

Moreover, al-Kaf'ami is quoted as saying that Mufaddal b. 'Umar was the “bab” (gateway or confidant) of Imam al-Sadiq, and ibn Shahrashub is quoted as saying that Muhammad b. Sinan was his “bab.”

People of consensus
- Jamil b. Darraj; (b. before 128/746, d. ?), an outstanding Shi'a hadith transmitter, hadith scholar, and faqih of the 2/8century.
- 'Abd Allah b. Bukayr; one of the chiefs of Al A'yan. He is known for his knowledge and reliability. Although he is a member of Fatahiyya sect, no one has doubted his reliability in narration of hadith.
- 'Abd Allah b. Muskan; (d. before 183/799) known as Ibn Muskan was a companions of Imam al-Sadiq (a) and Imam al-Kazim (a). He lived in Kufa.
- Aban b. Uthman al-Ahmar; (fl. 2nd/8th century), was a companion of Imam al-Sadiq (a) and Imam al-Kazim (a). He was familiar with Arabic history, literature, and genealogy. He wrote a book on the biography of the Holy Prophet (s).
- Hammad b. 'Uthman; (d. 190/805-6), a Shi'a Hadith scholar, narrator, and jurist of the 2nd/8th century.
- Hammad b. 'Isa; (d. 209/824-825) was an Imami hadith scholar and jurist of the 2nd/8th century.
- Zurara b. A'yan; (b. c 70/690 - d. 150/767) was one of the greatest Shi'a faqihs and theologians, and among the close companions of Imam al-Baqir (a), Imam al-Sadiq (a), and Imam al-Kazim (a).
- Burayd b. Mu'awiya al-'Ijli; one of the Shi'a faqihs of the first half of 2nd/8th century, and one of the companions of Imam al-Baqir (a) and Imam al-Sadiq (a).
- Muhammad b. Muslim; (d. 150/767-768) was a prominent companion of Imam al-Baqir (a) and Imam al-Sadiq (a).
- Ma'ruf b. Kharrabudh; among narrators who have been mentioned as reliable both by Shi'a and Sunni scholars.
- Al-Fudayl b. Yasar; a companion of Imam al-Baqir (a) and Imam al-Sadiq (a) and one of the People of Consensus. The scholars of rijal have regarded al-Fudayl as a jurist, exegete, and a reliable hadith transmitter.
- Abu Basir al-Asadi; an Imamiyya figure in Kufa and a companion of Imam al-Baqir (a) and Imam al-Sadiq (a). He is also said to have been a companion of Imam Musa al-Kazim (a).

- Humran b. A'yan; one of the eminent companions of Imam al-Baqir (a) and Imam al-Sadiq (a). He was an expert in the science of al-qira'a, Arabic syntax and lexicology, fiqh and kalam.
- Ibn Udhayna; a companion of Imam al-Sadiq (a) and Imam al-Kazim (a).
- Jabir b. Yazid al-Ju'fi; one of Tabi'un and an outstanding companion of Imam al-Baqir (a) and Imam al-Sadiq (a).
- Hariz b. 'Abd Allah al-Sajistani; He had several books, which were counted amoung al-Usul al-arba'ami'a. Most of his hadiths are on prayer.
- Sayf b. 'Amira al-Nakha'i; a companion of Imam al-Sadiq (a) and Imam al-Kazim (a) from Kufa. He composed an elegiac poem about Imam al-Husayn (a) and wrote a collection of hadiths.
- Ibn Abi Ya'fur; He was accepted as a reliable hadith narrator by Imam al-Sadiq (a) and Imam al-Kazim (a). Also he is admired and praised in a number of hadiths.
- 'Ubayd Allah b. 'Ali al-Halabi; the author of book al-Jami' or al-Kitab.
- Layth b. Bukhturi al-Muradi
- Aban b. Taghlib; a man of literature, reciter and commentator of the Qur'an, fiqh and hadith scholar. he narrated about 30,000 hadiths from Imam al-Sadiq (a).
- Dawud b. Kathir al-Raqqi; companion of Imam al-Sadiq (a), Imam al-Kazim (a), and Imam al-Rida (a). He transmitted many hadiths concerning theology, fiqh, the exegesis of the Qur'an, and ethics.
- Bukayr b. A'yan; one of companions of Imam al-Baqir (a) and Imam al-Sadiq (a).
- Tha'laba b. Maymun; a companion of Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (a) and Imam Musa al-Kazim (a).

- Mu'min al-Taq; an expert in theology (kalam) and apologetic debates. Most of the works attributed to him are theological. However, he is reported as having debates in fiqh (jurisprudence) with Abu Hanifa.
- Hisham b. Salim al-Jawaliqi; a student and companion of Imam al-Sadiq (a) and Imam al-Kazim (a). His expertise in theology was more than in jurisprudence.

- Yaqtin b. Musa al-Baghdadi; (d. 186/802) was a Shi'a muhaddith and an agent of the Abbasid Caliphate.
- Jabir b. Hayyan; a Shi'a scientist of the 2nd/8th century. A great collection of works in alchemy, philosophy, medicine, mathematics, astronomy and music is attributed to him.
- Khalid b. Abi Isma'il al-Kufi; He was also the author of one of the Usul of Shi'a.
- Khalid b. Jarir al-Bajali; A number of Ashab al-Ijma' (People of Consensus) including al-Hasan b. Mahbub has narrated hadiths from him.
- Safwan b. Mihran al-Jammal; He appears in the chains of transmitters of many hadiths, ziyarahs, and supplications, such as Ziyarah al-Arba'in, Ziyarah al-Warith, and Supplication of 'Alqama.

- Sa'ida; among the women of virtues and a concubine of Imam al-Sadiq (a) who was later freed by him (a). In Shi'a books of rijal, she is mentioned among transmitters of hadith. She learned hadith from Imam al-Sadiq (a).
- Khaythama b. 'Abd al-Rahman; one of the famous figures of Al Abi Sabra. Khaythama met many sahaba and has narrated hadith from some of them. There are some hadiths indicating that Imam al-Baqir (a) and Imam al-Sadiq (a) had trust in him. Great hadith narrators such as Ibn Muskan and Abu Basir have narrated hadiths from him.
- Durust b. Abi Mansur; a companion of Imam al-Sadiq (a) and Imam al-Kazim (a). He also has narrated hadith from the eminent Shi'a muhaddiths. Some members of people of consensus such as: Ahmad b. Muhammad al-Bazanti, al-Hasan b. Mahbub, 'Abd Allah b. Bukayr, and Yunus b. 'Abd al-Rahman have narrated hadith from him.
- Al-Sayyid al-Himyari; among famous Shi'a poets who composed many poems in defense of Shi'a.

- 'Abd al-Malik b. A'yan; known as Abu Durays (أبوضُرَیس) was one of the chiefs of Al A'yan and among the special and trustworthy companions of Imam al-Baqir (a) and Imam al-Sadiq (a).
- Humran b. A'yan
- Mu'alla b. Khunays; a transmitter of hadiths and a financial deputy of Imam al-Sadiq (a) who was killed at the command of Abbasid officials in 131/748.
Jarudiya
- Abu l-Jarud; a companion of Imam al-Baqir (a) and Imam al-Sadiq (a). He was the founder of the first Zaydi sect, that is, Jarudiyya.
Waqifiya
- Dawud b. Husayn; al-Shaykh al-Tusi and Ibn 'Uqda mentioned that he was a Waqifi. He was a friend of Abu l-'Abbas Fadl b. 'Abd al-Malik al-Baqbaq – a renowned companion of Imam al-Sadiq (a)– and has narrated his book.
- 'Ali b. Abi Hamza al-Bata'ini; (d. circa 200/815) is a companion of Imam al-Sadiq (a) and Imam al-Kazim (a) and one of the heads of Waqifiya.

- Abu l-Khattab; the founder of the Ghali sect of Khattabiyya. He was also among the revolutionist of the begging of the Abbasid era.

- Abu Hanifa; (b. 80/699 - d. 150/767) was a scholar of fiqh and kalam in Kufa and the founder of Hanafiyya, one of the four sects of Sunni Islam.
- Sufyan b. 'Uyayna; (b. 107/725-6 – d. 198/813-4) was a scholar in hadith and fiqh. He met more than 80 of the Followers and heard hadiths from them.
