Khalid transmitted hadiths from Imam al-Sadiq (a) as well as other transmitters of hadiths, such as Abu Hamza al-Thumali, Jabir al-Ju'fi, Muhammad b. Fadl, and Muhammad b. Khalid al-Tayalisi. Lineage and Title
His father's name is mentioned in the chains of transmissions of many hadiths as "Madd". However, some sources of 'ilm al-rijal have mentioned his father as "Ziyad", "Himad", "Bad" and "Mazin". Because of such variations about his father's name, some sources have taken each to be a distinct person.
In addition to "al-Qalanisi", Khalid was known as "Bayya' al-Qalanis" as well which indicates his occupation as a hat-seller or hat-maker.
Reliability
Khalid was from Kufa. In sources of 'ilm al-rijal, he is mentioned as a companion of Imam al-Sadiq (a) and Imam al-Kazim (a). Al-Najashi confirmed his reliability.
Hadiths and Masters
Khalid transmitted hadiths from Imam al-Sadiq (a) as well as from other transmitters of hadiths such as Abu Hamza al-Thumali, Jabir al-Ju'fi, Muhammad b. Fadl, and Muhammad b. Khalid al-Tayalisi. Hadiths transmitted by him are concerned with issues of fiqh such as hajj, wasiyya (the will), inheritance, corpses, as well as the virtues of Ahl al-Bayt (a).
Transmitters from Khalid
'Ali b. Hakam, 'Ali b. 'Abd Allah al-Bajali, 'Ali b. Mu'ammar, Zarif b. Nasih, and Muhammad b. Sanan transmitted hadiths from Khalid, but Nadr b. Shu'ayb has transmitted most of Khalid’s hadiths.
Ibn Babawayh pointed out in his Man la yahduruh al-faqih that every hadith transmitted by Khalid is transmitted to us through Nadr b. Shu'ayb.
Work
Khalid wrote a book which was transmitted by Nadr b. Shu'ayb and Abu Hurayra 'Abd Allah b. Salam. In his assessment of the work, al-Najashi implied doubts about some of its contents.
Since Nadr b. Shu'ayb was a transmitter of this work, its contents can be accessed and assessed through hadiths transmitted by Nadr b. Shu'ayb.
